    Assistant Principal Ericka Pollard

As you may know, Annie Patu (FHS class of '87), who has served as our assistant principal for the past 4 years, is moving down the street to Rainier Beach High School to honor and continue the legacy of her mom and former school board director, Betty Patu. With her departure we were presented with an opportunity to find a new assistant principal to welcome into our school community.

As your proud principal, I am excited to announce Mrs. Ericka Pollard as our new assistant principal at Franklin High School. Ericka comes to Franklin from Kimball Elementary School where she has served as an assistant principal for the past 2 years. As you’ll read in her short bio (below), Ericka brings a wealth of knowledge, skill, experience and passion to Franklin and I am excited about the ways in which she will complement our administrative team and contribute to our community.  Please help me welcome Mrs. Pollard to Franklin!

Bio - Mrs. Ericka D. Pollard
My name is Ericka D. Pollard and I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I attended Seattle Public Schools for grades K-12 and am a proud graduate of Chief Sealth High School. My mother Lillie Rainwater has taught in SPS for over 45 years and she is the reason I fell in love with teaching and leading. I have two amazing daughters Taylor (25), Teagan (12) and a wonderful husband Trenton, who serves students and families at Cleveland High School.

I am a passionate leader of color, who is focused on racial equity, building an inclusive school community, using a strength-based approach to coach teachers and using data to improve instruction and student outcomes. It has been my honor to serve the students and families of Seattle Public Schools for the past 19 years. During this time, I have held many roles: Family Services Provider, Special Education-Instructional Assistant, Classroom Teacher, Reading Specialist, Head Teacher, Academic Intervention Specialist-High School and Assistant Principal. Each of these valuable positions have given me a true appreciation for the hard work that goes into student success and achievement.

I believe with the current political and racial climate, high school students need to be surrounded by educators that love them, believe in them and encourage them to be the change we need in the world. Young people must be reminded that they are individually brilliant, empowered, belong and can do whatever they set their mind to. High School educators also need love, encouragement and to be reminded that they are valued, appreciated and entrusted with growing tomorrow’s leaders.

Some of my professional core values are building and maintaining authentic relationships, leading with truth, love and grace, and changing the world one smile at a time. A quote that keeps me motivated on the hardest days is “For these are all our children, we will profit by or pay for what they become.”-James Baldwin. Lastly, I am a warm demander with a great sense of humor, a high level of integrity and a LOVE for people! I am so excited to join the Franklin Q-mmunity and look forward to accomplishing great things together!
