Franklin School Leader Update
Dear Franklin families and staff,
I am pleased to announce Dr. Joseph Williams as the next principal of Franklin High School. Dr. Joseph Williams will be replacing Principal Andrew O’Connell, who is leaving to accept another position in the Bellevue School District.
Dr. Williams is currently serving as the interim principal at Ballard High School. Dr. Williams has worked as an assistant principal and principal since 2005, at the elementary, middle, and high school level in the following states: Georgia, Missouri, and now Washington. Prior to serving as a school leader, Dr. Williams worked as a special education teacher and social studies teacher at the middle and high school level. He is highly regarded for his leadership in creating safe, inclusive, and equity focused school cultures.
During his two years at Ballard High School, Dr. Williams has demonstrated leadership in guiding staff and students, through academics and social emotional challenges, worked with and co-facilitated the Ballard High School Diversity Empowerment Council (DEC) with a focus on racial equity, helped restart the school’s Multicultural Club for students of color, formed the Principal’s Student Advisory Council, which represents all student groups, and partnered with the One Love Foundation to provide professional learning for the BHS school community on strengthening student/staff relationships and early identification of toxic/potentially harmful relationships.
In addition to his work as an assistant principal, Dr. Williams earned university degrees from California Coast University (Ed.D.), Nova Southeastern University (M.S.), William Howard Taft University (M.B.A.), Liberty University (Bachelors), and Kansas City Kansas Community College (Associates).
He has leadership certificates in Washington, Missouri, and Georgia. He also earned a graduate certificate in social justice leadership from Texas A&M University. Dr. Williams lives in Seattle with his wife and two young children, who both attend Seattle Public Schools.
While his official start date will be Friday, July 1, 2022, he is excited to begin his work at Franklin, and will begin the process of connecting with staff, families, and students during the final weeks of the current school year, as well as during the summer months. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Williams to the Franklin community. I also want to thank Principal O’Connell for all his work and wish him much success in his new position.
Dr. Brent Jones
