Summer Career Quest Internships provide students with career exploration and development opportunities.  Student interns will work closely with their internship host to discuss solutions and ideas while developing problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, presentation and networking skills.  Students participate in a wide range of workplace activities to gain skills and knowledge for specific occupations, while being supported by weekly career development class time with a Seattle Public Schools Career Quest teacher.

The Seattle Teen Late Night Program started in 1987 at the Rainier Community Center in South Seattle, and now involves eight flagship locations; with opportunities to expand and grow. This program regularly serves teens every Friday and Saturday night in the Seattle region at various community centers. The Seattle Teen Late Night Program also contributes to community events, hosts its own weekly programs, and engages teens and tweens in schools.

The Seattle Teen Late Night Intern position is designed to provide teens with hands-on work experience, leadership development, and professional skills while supporting the operations of the Late Night program. Interns play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for participants by assisting with program activities, community outreach, and event facilitation.
 
Our goals for this program are to:
 -Empower youth through mentorship, skill-building, and professional development.
 -Support program operations by assisting with logistics, marketing, and peer engagement.
 -Foster community connections by promoting inclusivity, teamwork, and leadership.

Seattle Teen Late Night Interns will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure their success in the program. Training will focus on developing leadership, job readiness, and program facilitation skills while providing mentorship and professional growth opportunities.
 
Interns will gain exposure to career pathways in parks & recreation, youth services, and public service, as well as valuable real-world experience that enhances their leadership skills, prepares them for future careers, and empowers them to make a meaningful impact in their community.

Job Responsibilities

Examples of duties that will be performed:

• Distribute and post marketing materials within community centers, teen life centers, and the surrounding neighborhood to increase program awareness
• Assist in promoting Teen Late Night events to ensure participation and engagement
• Greet participants and visitors, ensuring a welcoming environment
• Manage participant sign-ins and provide detailed program information to attendees
• Dinner set-up and service
• Assist with arranging tables, chairs, and serving stations during dinner hour
• Serve meals to participants and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and order
• Help break down and clean up after meals to ensure a tidy environment
• Accurately track and record scores during Late Night basketball games
• Collaborate with referees and facilitators to ensure smooth game operations and fair play
• Facilitate small group discussions or one-on-one check-ins with peers
• Create a safe and supportive space for participants to share thoughts, concerns, and ideas

his internship opportunity is for students enrolled an accredited High School, or enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year undergraduate college program, ages 15-21.

*High School Interns will be paid at the High School Intern rate ($20.76/hr).

This position is designed to provide meaningful work experiences and career exposure to the field of recreation for youth ages 15 – 21. In this position, youth will participate in a structured curriculum of work-based learning experiences that encourage youth to explore and experiment in different areas of parks and recreation. Career Explorations has four focus areas, recreation, event planning, nutritional education and fitness education.

Changemakers in Computing (CIC) is a 4-week free summer program for Washington State high school students to learn about technology, society, and justice. Hosted by the University of Washington’s Allen School, Changemakers in Computing aims to increase the participation of underrepresented, economically disadvantaged, and/or future first-generation college students in computer science and engineering. The program is open to all rising juniors and seniors at Washington State high schools.

High School Summer Research

The Allen School High School Summer Research Intern Program is an opportunity for high school students to engage in research being done in the Allen School. Interns will spend about 8 weeks working on a project under the supervision and support of a research mentor. We encourage students who do not have much programming experience or any research experience to apply for the program. We will use the information about background knowledge provided in the application to find the best project match for applicants based on project requirements and applicant experience.

Enroll in an Allen School Summer Course

U.S. high school students can earn college credit by taking courses at the University of Washington during Summer Sessions! To be eligible, you must have completed eighth grade or its equivalent by June 30, 2024. You can find the list of Allen School summer courses on our CSE Time Schedules page. To register for Summer Sessions as a high school student at the Seattle campus, follow the steps on the Summer Sessions page.

Who: Urban Native Education Alliance was founded in 2008 to engage generations of Native youth through education, culture, and tradition. This internship 8-10 hours per week during spring semester. The internship will focus on career readiness, college preparation and business planning with tribal leaders and business owners.

Washington Neurodiversity Project (WNP) is a private foundation focused on increasing employment outcomes for neurodivergent people in Washington state.

Young adults seeking a career as a Seattle firefighter can apply to participate in our department’s cadet programs.

To qualify for the program, you must:

• 16 to 20 year old students
• Be in good physical condition (must complete Cadet Program Physical Ability Test)

What: Uterish is a Seattle-based reproductive justice nonprofit, and we offer a summer internship for self-directed rising juniors and seniors who are passionate about social justice and want to build their editorial and communications skills.

This internship is a great opportunity for students to learn more about social justice, connect with like-minded peers, and develop their professional skills in a collaborative, feminist nonprofit environment. We gladly sign off on volunteer hours, and have coordinated school credit on behalf of interns who have needed it in the past. It is a low-commitment internship (around 5 hours a week) coordinated around the schedule of the interns. Applications are due by March 24.

What: RBYS is a youth employment program of Tilth Alliance for youth, ages 14-18, to gain job experience through wetland restoration and farm education. Participants will work at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands and support with field maintenance, food distribution, and wetland restoration.
