Two new Internship opportunities!

TeenTix hiring PAID interns interested in arts and media careers! (but the deadline is THIS MONDAY June 3)

TeenTix is hiring young people for the summer for its 2024 Creative Workforce Program! Applications are open across a variety of departments and are available to high school and college-aged applicants.

All internship positions will be paid $20 an hour for up to 15 hours a week. They currently have internships available for six weeks (July 8 – August 16) and six months (July 8 – December 22).

Internships are in one of three departments:

  • Program Support in Youth Media – Interns will work closely with our Teen Programs; The Newsroom, The New Guard, The Teen Arts Podcast, and Mentorship for Teen Artists of Color.
  • Digital Media and Communications – Interns will work with TeenTix communications channels like social media, newsletters, digital infographics and posters, and more!
  • Project Management / Arts Management – Interns will work on events or project based assignments. Ideas might be Alumni growth, a fall fundraiser, a summer art showcase, a data visualization project, or more!

For Spanish speakers: a PAID Summer training program and internship qualifier!

El Centro de la Raza on Beacon Hill is recruiting for its Youth J.O.B. Readiness Program, a stipend-paid opportunity with free meals, field trips, and free job search help that leads to future paid internship opportunities. The program is designed to assist youth with identifying career pathways related to their interests with a focus on living wage careers. Staff offer classes and workshops to develop basic professional skills and provide students with opportunities for professional development.

El Centro de la Raza The Center for People of All Races

Program participants are guided in the creation of a working portfolio including a resume, cover letter, job/internship application plan, list of community and financial resources, and more. Students who complete the summer program qualify for PAID internship opportunities throughout the school year.

Program Times: Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:30am-2:30pm, from July 8 to August 23

Rare PAID Summer work opportunity available for students under 16!

The 2024 Student Conservation Association Seattle Summer Urban Green Crew will work with local partners to do invasive species maintenance, erosion control, trail maintenance, and mulching.

The majority of the crew’s work will be in parks and green spaces in the Seattle area. The crew will also spend three days and two nights working with the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, camping at Denny Creek Campground. SCA will provide all food, transportation, and gear for this trip.

The crew will take part in environmental education and green job readiness activities throughout the week. This includes field trips to a number of sites in the region every Friday. Students are paid $20/hour, 33-35 hours per week for 7 weeks

Who: The crew will be comprised of 12 students, ages 14-19, and 2 adult crew leaders. Housing is not provided, except during the camping trip. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 14-19 years of age during the program dates
  • Must be currently in high school or a recent high school graduate
  • Must be located in the greater Seattle area (housing not provided)
  • Must be available for camping trip (August 7-9)
  • Must be available for the ENTIRE program to be considered!! (7/8/24-8/23/24)

You Grow Girl offering 10-week PAID internships for female-identifying students interested in the mental health profession

You Grow Girl! is accepting You Grow Girl applications for their upcoming summer career exploration and readiness training cohort. This 10-week paid program will prepare female-identifying youth, ages 16-25 with the essential skills they need to find, acquire, maintain, and grow as sustainable professionals. This program focuses on exploring careers in the behavioral health field.

You Grow Girl Inspiring Her Pathway Towards Sustainable Success

Aspiring youth mentors, therapists, social workers, case managers, public health educators, substance use disorder counselors, and other behavioral health professionals will be paid $20.00 per hour and will be eligible for employment opportunities either at You Grow Girl! or other community partners upon successful completion of the 10-week program. Space is limited, with only 12 spots available.

UW Botanical Gardens still seeking outdoor summer interns

Are you interested in exploring careers in environmental fields? We are looking for curious, creative, and enthusiastic teens with a commitment to community and equity to join our Summer 2024 intern cohort! No previous experience in environmental issues required.

University of Washington Botanic Gardens

This internship program integrates multiple disciplines and ways of knowing to support a diverse community of interns in finding a career path that is right for them.

  • Who: Teens aged 16-18
  • When: July 8 – August 2, 2024, Monday through Friday, 9AM-3PM (with slight variation)
  • Where: Washington Park Arboretum and locations around the greater Seattle area
  • Compensation: $1750 stipend for completion of the four week program

Team Read is hiring again for NEXT school year. Apply now to guarantee your placement!

Team Read provides teens with a PAID opportunity to gain valuable work skills and the satisfaction of changing the lives of children in their community. The program supports second and third grade students who are not yet reading at grade level. Students are referred into the program by their classroom teacher, or other staff at their school, early in the academic year. They meet with their teen coaches after school two times per week, beginning in November through mid-May.

The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.

This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.

TeenTix

Teen Tix offers opportunities for teens interested in writing, podcasting, advocacy, and a summer program specifically for teen artists of color to receive mentorship on their craft. All programs are paid positions and we offer a wellness/transportation stipend for participants.

  • M-TAC Program – allows teen artists of color to hone their artwork under the guidance of professional mentors.
  • New Guard Program – a board of young arts leaders and advocates serving TeenTix’s mission
  • Teen Tix Arts Podcast –  a group of teens who produce a monthly podcast focused on arts and culture
  • Teen Tix Newsroom – a place for teens to process, interpret, reflect, and think critically about the art and media they engage with

Attend the Cornish College Summer Art Programs

Summer at Cornish is an intensive 4-week summer program offering high school students a mini-college experience. No auditions or submissions are necessary to register – classes are rigorous, taught by Cornish faculty, but inclusive so that students still exploring their journey in the arts can participate alongside students with more experience.  

More than a summer camp, students choose their electives and  can mix-and-match classes in dance, music, theater, film, art & design.

Aeronautical Pathways Program Seeking Applicants for Fall 2024

The Aeronautical Science Pathways program, hosted at The Museum of Flight is a free,skills center  program for high school juniors and seniors.    The program  introduces students to the following career pathways: professional pilot, unmanned aerial systems (drones), air traffic control, airline dispatch, and airline and airport management.  

  • Juniors receive 3.0 CTE credits with equivalencies (1.0 lab science and .5 English Language Arts); Seniors receive 3.0 CTE credits   
  • Both Juniors and Seniors are eligible for 30 college credits (each year); dual credits awarded by Green River College   
  • Both Juniors and Seniors are eligible for The Museum of Flight flight-training and post-secondary scholarships(annual awards upwards of $250,000)   

The Museum of Flight hosts Museum of Flight monthly information sessions.  Students can register online via this Museum of Flight monthly information sessions student Inquiry Form.


Service Learning and Community Programs

Seattle Marathon seeking volunteers for a number of upcoming events

Seattle Marathon Association

The Seattle Marathon Association, an organization providing quality running events through the year – including the world-famous Seattle Marathon, is excited to extend an invitation for students to volunteer at their upcoming events:

  • Seattle Marathon Summer – June 22nd 7am at Seward Park
  • UW Medicine Seattle Health & Fitness Expo – November 29th & 30th 11am – 7pm at The Westin Seattle
  • Seattle Kids Marathon – November 30th 10am – 11am at Seattle Center Exhibition Hall
  • UW Medicine Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon – December 1st Marathon 7am, Half 7:30am at Seattle Center

Earn ALL of your Service Hours this summer working for the Museum of Pop Culture

MoPOP’s Youth Volunteer Program (Summer Session) is an opportunity for high schoolers to complete 40-60 service learning hours while learning about museum and nonprofit career options from MoPOP professionals.

Youth Volunteers will perform various volunteer roles, interact with the diverse visiting population of the museum visitors and staff, and get to know other youth interested in the museum field. We’re seeking applicants who are excited about pop culture and who are interested in building their customer service and public speaking skills. Applications close on June 3, 2024.

Still Need Service Hours for Graduation this year? Volunteer as a Tutor

Youth Tutoring Program

Catholic Community Services of Western Washington’s Youth Tutoring Program is seeking volunteers to work with students at their tutoring centers. At the centers, scholars build skills in reading and math, get help with homework, and grow their confidence. There are five YTP tutoring centers located throughout Seattle that open in the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Kiwanis Camp Casey Seeking Summer Camp Counselors

Want to make a difference this summer while earning Service Learning credit? Kiwanis Camp Casey is a free, week long summer camp for children ages 6-17 who have physical disabilities. It is provided by the North Central of Seattle Kiwanis, and they are currently seeking volunteer counselors to help create “the best week of the year” for their campers.

This year, Kiwanis Camp Casey will be held at Lions Camp Horizon in Blaine, WA. Transportation will be provided to and from camp starting from the Seattle area.

UW Botanical Gardens also still seeking Summer Junior Naturalist Volunteers

University of Washington Botanic Gardens

The University of Washington Botanic Gardens are places for plant research, display, and education. There are two sites: the Washington Park Arboretum and the Center for Urban Horticulture. Both offer excellent opportunities for exercise, exploration, and wildlife viewing.

Junior Naturalists are teens volunteering with UW Botanic Gardens Summer Camp who are enthusiastic about working with kids, playing outside, and gaining leadership skills. \

  • Who:   Teens ages 15 – 18
  • When: Junior Naturalists serve for at least one, 2-week session. See the schedule below for session dates.
  • When: Washington Park Arboretum
  • Cost: Free. This is a volunteer opportunity. Junior Naturalists may use this experience to meet service hour requirements. A reference letter is available at the successful completion of the two weeks.
