FEEST Seeking Franklin students for a PAID internship opportunity during the entire 2024-25 school year, deadline June 17.

FEEST is a youth organizing program at Chief Sealth, Rainier Beach, Franklin, Evergreen and Tyee High Schools. They are offering an exciting paid opportunity for youth who are interested in health and social justice to build organizing skills and make positive change in your school district!

In the FEEST program, you will receive leadership training, develop facilitation & public speaking skills, learn about social justice, and build youth power to create more equitable school systems in the Seattle and Highline School Districts. Students work typically about 2-6 hours per week on projects that serve the needs of their local school community.

Pay – Students are paid in monthly stipends, so you do not need US work eligibility to qualify.

Application – students must fill out an FEEST application, and the priority deadline to submit is June 17th.

Paid Training Program provides job skills through community gardening and cooking

Nourishian is a job skills training for young people ages 16-21 designed to provide valuable skills to support their holistic health through cooking, gardening, financial literacy, and mental health tools. The goal of the program is to promote individual health and community wellness through self-efficacy, nurturing relationships, and cultural expression. 

The program is 4 days per week (M-Th), 9am – 3pm, July 8 – August 14, and includes weekly field trips, guest speakers, and guest cooks representing different cultures. Students can earn $2,500 and will be provided weekly boxes of seasonal produce from local BIPOC farms to take home and practice cooking at home.

For Spanish speakers: a PAID Summer training program and internship qualifier!

El Centro de la Raza on Beacon Hill is recruiting for its Youth J.O.B. Readiness Program, a stipend-paid opportunity with free meals, field trips, and free job search help that leads to future paid internship opportunities. The program is designed to assist youth with identifying career pathways related to their interests with a focus on living wage careers. Staff offer classes and workshops to develop basic professional skills and provide students with opportunities for professional development.

Program participants are guided in the creation of a working portfolio including a resume, cover letter, job/internship application plan, list of community and financial resources, and more. Students who complete the summer program qualify for PAID internship opportunities throughout the school year.

Rare PAID Summer work opportunity available for students under 16!

The 2024 Student Conservation Association Seattle Summer Urban Green Crew will work with local partners to do invasive species maintenance, erosion control, trail maintenance, and mulching.

The majority of the crew’s work will be in parks and green spaces in the Seattle area. The crew will also spend three days and two nights working with the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, camping at Denny Creek Campground. SCA will provide all food, transportation, and gear for this trip.

The crew will take part in environmental education and green job readiness activities throughout the week. This includes field trips to a number of sites in the region every Friday. Students are paid $20/hour, 33-35 hours per week for 7 weeks

Who: The crew will be comprised of 12 students, ages 14-19, and 2 adult crew leaders. Housing is not provided, except during the camping trip.

You Grow Girl offering 10-week PAID internships for female-identifying students interested in the mental health profession

You Grow Girl! is accepting You Grow Girl applications for their upcoming summer career exploration and readiness training cohort. This 10-week paid program will prepare female-identifying youth, ages 16-25 with the essential skills they need to find, acquire, maintain, and grow as sustainable professionals. This program focuses on exploring careers in the behavioral health field.

Aspiring youth mentors, therapists, social workers, case managers, public health educators, substance use disorder counselors, and other behavioral health professionals will be paid $20.00 per hour and will be eligible for employment opportunities either at You Grow Girl! or other community partners upon successful completion of the 10-week program. Space is limited, with only 12 spots available.

Rainier Beach Urban Wetlands Hiring for Fall 2024 (deadline August 3), jobs for under 16, no US work eligibility required

The Rainier Beach Youth Stewards program is currently hiring for their Fall 2024 session! RBYS is a youth employment program of Tilth Alliance for youth, ages 14-18, to gain job experience through wetland restoration and farm education. 

Participants will work at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands and support with field maintenance, food distribution, and wetland restoration. Youth will participate in workshops that explore food access, civic engagement, and responsible land stewardship while building relationships with peers, adult staff, and volunteers. Additionally, there will be opportunities for professional development through team building and job skills training.

Schedule  — September 11 – December 7. Every Wednesday, 3:15- 5:15 p.m. and every Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Total of 13 weeks. Will adjust hours when school is in session, and will transition to only Saturdays after Daylight Saving Time.

Qualifications: To be considered, applicants must be 14-18 years old and must submit a complete application. 

Location: Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands is located at 5513 S Cloverdale Street, Seattle, WA 98118  

Pay: Youth will be paid $19.97/hr and will receive checks bi-weekly.

Team Read is hiring again for NEXT school year. Apply now to guarantee your placement!

Team Read provides teens with a PAID opportunity to gain valuable work skills and the satisfaction of changing the lives of children in their community. The program supports second and third grade students who are not yet reading at grade level. Students are referred into the program by their classroom teacher, or other staff at their school, early in the academic year. They meet with their teen coaches after school two times per week, beginning in November through mid-May.

The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.

Training and Mentorship Programs

PAID Training Opportunity to Develop Coding and Web Design skills

HTLCO is a paid opportunity for high school students to use web development as a means of for expression of ethnic cultural identities. The workshop was created by EchoX, Ethnic Cultural Heritage Online Exchange, for students interested in this type of ethnic cultural storytelling, who have little to no experience in coding, and who have a desire to learn about digital content creation. The workshop is a paid opportunity as EchoX recognizes that some students need to work during the summer. It is also all virtual (for students who may need assistance with internet or device access, we do have a program for that).

Public Health Camp available for those interested in health careers that serve communities

Curious about public health and what your local health department does? Join King County Public Health August 5-9 and explore STEAM career paths in health care (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), including hands-on learning from public health professionals. Participate alongside nurses, research scientists, epidemiologists, health educators and program managers as you learn about ways to combine your passion for public service with your interest in health and medical careers.

Youth will gain valuable experience and knowledge about the prevention and treatment of current health epidemics, local health department work, and the work done in partnership with the community. Participants will also learn how Public Health Seattle and King County leads to dismantle racism and how statistics and data drive public health interventions in our communities.

Intense Climate and Health Training Program held at Harvard this summer

Each summer, the Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (Harvard Chan C-CHANGE) joins forces with Putney Pre-College to bring together passionate high school students from around the world for their Youth Summit on Climate, Equity, and Health.

Located at the Harvard Chan School, the program trains students to be climate and health leaders in their communities through workshops, field-based activities, and meetings with scientists, health and policy experts, academics, energy innovators and more. The Youth Summits combine Putney’s extensive history of designing educational and innovative student programs with Harvard Chan C-CHANGE’s leadership putting health and equity at the center of climate actions.

Washington Business Week summer programs still open

If you are still looking for something to do this summer and have interest in business and healthcare careers, Washington Business Week summer programs are still recruiting students for their enrichment programs.  They have an overnight camp at University of Puget Sound in Tacoma as well as day camps at Renton Technical College.   Scholarships are available, and participants earn 2 college credits as well.

Attend the Cornish College Summer Art Programs

Summer at Cornish is an intensive 4-week summer program offering high school students a mini-college experience. No auditions or submissions are necessary to register – classes are rigorous, taught by Cornish faculty, but inclusive so that students still exploring their journey in the arts can participate alongside students with more experience.  

More than a summer camp, students choose their electives and  can mix-and-match classes in dance, music, theater, film, art & design.

Aeronautical Pathways Program Seeking Applicants for Fall 2024

The Aeronautical Science Pathways program, hosted at The Museum of Flight is a free, skills center  program for high school juniors and seniors.    The program  introduces students to the following career pathways: professional pilot, unmanned aerial systems (drones), air traffic control, airline dispatch, and airline and airport management.  

• Juniors receive 3.0 CTE credits with equivalencies (1.0 lab science and .5 English Language Arts); Seniors receive 3.0 CTE credits   
• Both Juniors and Seniors are eligible for 30 college credits (each year); dual credits awarded by Green River College   
• Both Juniors and Seniors are eligible for The Museum of Flight flight-training and post-secondary scholarships (annual awards upwards of $250,000)

UW Botanical Gardens also still seeking Summer Junior Naturalist Volunteers

The University of Washington Botanic Gardens are places for plant research, display, and education. There are two sites: the Washington Park Arboretum and the Center for Urban Horticulture. Both offer excellent opportunities for exercise, exploration, and wildlife viewing.

Junior Naturalists are teens volunteering with UW Botanic Gardens Summer Camp who are enthusiastic about working with kids, playing outside, and gaining leadership skills. \

• Who:   Teens ages 15 – 18
• When: Junior Naturalists serve for at least one, 2-week session. See the schedule below for session dates.
• Where: Washington Park Arboretum
• Cost: Free. This is a volunteer opportunity. Junior Naturalists may use this experience to meet service hour requirements. A reference letter is available at the successful completion of the two weeks.
