Computing for All
Computing for All works with employers, schools, and community organizations to prepare diverse WA state students and job seekers for careers in tech.
Opportunity: Software Development Pre-Apprenticeship Program – Learn to code, build professional job skills, and network with employers. Attend live, online, instructor-lead classes and earn money while you learn. Qualified students receive stipends for their active participation. The program is 4 quarters per year and takes 6 quarters to complete. Classes run Tuesday & Thursday afternoons during Fall, Winter, and Spring; daily classes in summer.
COPE Health Scholars*
COPE Health Scholars provides an educational opportunity for individuals interested in making a difference in health care, advancing their careers, and building lifelong relationships and learning through the COPE Connect network.
Opportunity: Junior Health Scholar Program – allows high school students between the ages of 16-17 to shadow a current Health Scholar or work independently in the patient care setting dependent on site requirements. Junior Health Scholars observe how care delivery and administrative teams work together to deliver excellent care and explore whether a career in health care is right for them. Scholars will work independently alongside staff members to perform basic patient care. Upon program graduations, Junior Health Scholars earn a certificate from Keck Graduate Institute in Patient Experience and Health Professions Studies.
Fred Hutch Cancer Center
Fred Hutch Cancer Center unites care and research to provide the latest cancer treatment options and advance discoveries that prevent, treat and defeat cancer and infectious diseases worldwide.
Opportunity: High School Explorers Training Program – This is a two-week introduction to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the research being conducted here. Participants will conduct hands-on activities in Fred Hutch’s training labs, tour working labs, meet students and scientists at different stages of their careers, and talk about next steps you can take if you are interested in biomedical research. Please note that there are two sessions offered (July 29th – August 9th and August 12th – 23rd. Each program meets from 9 – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Geeking Out Kids of Color (GOKiC)*
Geeking Out Kids of Color builds and sustains youth programs that are rooted in community and consciousness. Our project-based tech curricula are informed by anti-racism, anti-sexism, multiculturalism, social-emotional learning, and decolonization frameworks. Their programs are geared towards empowering youth with the voice, digital literacy, and problem-solving skills to envision and construct new realities.
Opportunity: Collective Youth – 6 week summer program for High School Students taking place 3 days of the week at Beacon Hill Library focused on Social and Racial Justice topics & Technology/Coding Curriculums. Students receive a $300 stipend for program completion.
Girls Rock Math*
Girls Rock Math is a summer camp for girls meant to reinforce that math is fun and imaginative. They aim to boost interest and confidence in mathematics. Learning at Girls Rock Math allows for collaboration, emphasizing persistence, strategy building and mathematical thinking.
Opportunity: Teen Leadership Program (Camp Counselor) – Girls Rock Math summer camps has opportunities for high school youth to be camp counselors during the summer to earn service learning hours. In this role, volunteers support elementary age campers with camp activities, be a good role model, and take on responsibilities and tasks to help everything run smoothly and be as fun as possible.
Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center
The Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center (HIPRC) is a worldwide leader in injury cause and prevention research. They conduct research, train scientists, educate public health practitioners, and implement prevention programs to achieve injury-related health equity across the lifespan, because all people belong in the circle of human concern.
Opportunity: INSIGHT High School Program – an exciting and interactive four-week program designed to introduce young scholars to public health, biomedical research, & medicine. For 2024, the INSIGHT High School Program will be virtual.
Miller Hull Architects*
Miller Hull is an architecture firm based in Seattle and San Diego applying a regionalist design philosophy rooted in sustainability to projects across the country. The firm partners with clients and consultants to create deeply impactful buildings that are fresh and unexpected—whether a home, school, or civic destination.
Opportunity: Open Studio – A free, week-long educational opportunity at our Seattle studio, open to 24 students who want to take a deeper dive into the design process. For three hours each day, they will learn how to sketch and draw, think through a design problem with a teammate and present their work to a group, while receiving individualized feedback and counseling. One of the sessions will be used to take a field trip to enhance the participants’ understanding of the project.
Museum of Flight*
The Museum of Flight holds one of the largest air and space collections in the US and aims to become the foremost educational air and space museum in the world. This 15-acre campus includes over 160 air and spacecraft, the original Boeing Aircraft factory, flight simulators, and dozens of fun, interactive exhibits and family activities.
Opportunity 1: Aeronautical Science Pathway – a program for high school juniors and seniors who want to become professional pilots or work in drone operations, air traffic control, airport management, airline dispatch, or any other aviation operations management fields.
Opportunity 2: Aeronautical Exploration – a three-week summer program for Washington State rising 9th–12th graders who are, or might be, interested in a future in the aviation industry but may not know exactly the pathway they wish to pursue.
Opportunity 3: Private Pilot Ground School – unique, fast-paced, three-week summer course that provides the opportunity for Washington State rising 9th-12th grade students to explore the fundamentals of being a professional pilot. Students can obtain their license as early as 16 years of age.
Seattle Children’s Hospital
Seattle Children’s Hospital employs thousands of healthcare professionals who deliver hope, care and cures to help every child live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible.
Opportunity 1: Nurse Camp – During this free, five-day camp, students will gain insight into the world of pediatric nursing by participating in clinical observation sessions. In these sessions, students will shadow nurses in a clinical environment and observe as they provide patient care and interact with patients and families. July 15-19, 2024
Opportunity 2: Scrubs & ‘Scopes Camp – During this free, five-day camp, students will explore various allied health careers by job shadowing medical assistants, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, pharmacy technicians and radiology technologists in a clinical environment, observing as they provide patient care. August 12-16, 2024
Seattle Public Schools Career Connected Learning*

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) Career Connected Learning prepares students for career and college readiness after high school. Through Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes and internship opportunities, students explore a wide array of careers with the opportunity to deep dive into career pathways of particular interest to them.
Opportunity 1: Allen Institute Open Science Quest – 2-week class in biotechnology at the Allen Institute lab downtown. This opportunity is available to students who have completed biology, students may earn CTE credit for this class and get a payment of $500 upon completion.
UW Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering*
UW’s Allen School takes pride in their educational and research excellence and commitment to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive community for all. They prepare students to be the innovators and leaders of tomorrow while blazing new trails for our field in artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, mobile sensing, sustainable computing, data science and so much more.
Opportunity: Changemakers in Computing (CIC) – a free summer program aiming to increase the participation of underrepresented, economically disadvantaged, and/or future first-generation college students in computer science and engineering. The program is open to all rising juniors and seniors at Washington State high schools. Students will be organized into Mentee groups led by Mentors who are current UW undergraduate students. Mentees will develop coding skills through culturally relevant project-based learning, learning about different areas of computing, explore the changemaking impact one can have through technology, receive support in pursuing continued learning, and building community with other changemakers – other Mentees, as well as Mentors.
UW School of Nursing*
UW School of Nursing is home to some of the top programs in the nation. Together, their students, faculty and staff work boundlessly to turn ideas into impact and improve the health of people and communities locally and globally.
Opportunity: Nurse Camp – a free week-long camp geared towards increasing access and opportunities in nursing to a more diverse population of high school sophomores and juniors who are at least 16 years of age by the first day of camp. Students from all backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Washington Business Week
Washington Business Week (WBW) creates a hands-on experiential environment to educate, empower and encourage a diverse population of high school students to recognize and achieve their potential. Business leaders, educators, high school students, and community volunteers teach and inspire one another to be responsible employees, employers and citizens.
Opportunity: Advanced, Business, Telehealth, & Clean Energy Pathways – students in each pathway will compete on our simulation called WILE and the curriculum given to them will be tailored according to the pathway they chose. For example, for telehealth students will market and create a product pertaining to healthcare.
YWCA*
YWCA seeks to create an inclusive and thriving community transformed by racial and gender equity, with peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. They offer programs that help community members gain equitable opportunity to reach their full potential.
Opportunity: Femme2STEM – a program geared toward serving individuals who are furthest from opportunity, BIPOC females and non-binary youth ages 16-24, assisting them to overcome institutional barriers and racial and social inequities to explore, plan, and ultimately launch careers in STEM fields. Women of color have a diverse array of strengths to bring to STEM fields and their culture, language, background, experiences, and perspectives offer great value and benefit to STEM professions. This program will provide access to career and education exploration, by helping students obtain internships in the STEM field, have access to mentors and workshops, and be able to build a network with likeminded peers for support.
