Pedalheads Seeking Camp Counselors for Spring Break and Summer Programs
Pedalheads, a learn-to-ride bicycle day camp for ages 2-12, is currently hiring Camp Counselors to help run their 2025 spring break and summer programs. Their camp counselor positions are wonderful entry level jobs for youth to gain skills in relationship-building, teaching and leadership; and hours are also available as service-learning (you can do 40 hours of service-learning over Spring Break and then get paid throughout the Summer).

Teens in Public Service Seeking Interns interested in Leadership and Service
The 2025 application for Teens in Public Service (TIPS) is now open! TIPS provides paid summer internships at nonprofit organizations for high school students passionate about leadership and service. Internship placements range from museums to nature preserves, food banks, summer camps, and more!
TIPS interns gain…
- A summer’s worth of impactful work experience
- Exposure to the “behind the scenes” of nonprofit orgs carrying out community-centered work
- Mentorship, networking opportunity, and support from TIPS and their nonprofit supervisors / coworkers
- A paycheck – interns will be paid Seattle minimum wage, which will be $20.76 in 2025

Seattle Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department maintains an Career Quest SPS Active directory of internships and other career-focused training programs that is updated throughout the year. The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.
This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.
Worksite Learning (HS credit for work)
Students who are currently employed can earn high school credit (CTE or other elective credit) for completed working hours! Every 180 hours worked is equivalent to .5 high school elective credits plus an A to boost your GPA for college admissions.

Eligibility for students seeking elective credit for their paid work experience:
- Student must be 16 years of age or older, be legally employed, and have taken a CTE course.
- Complete Bi-Weekly check-in forms documenting your hours.
- Complete a final evaluation form detailing how their specific work experience aligns with their educational goals, imparts work and financial understanding, and the ways this work experience impacts future career and educational opportunities.
College Fairs, Visits, and Info Sessions
Seattle Pacific University hosting event for Underrepresented Juniors and Seniors on January 10
Seattle Pacific University will be hosting their S.P.A.C.E. (Seattle Pacific’s Access to the College Experience) event on Friday, January 10th, 2024, at their Queen Anna campus. SPU is a highly diverse and welcoming community, with the majority of students identifying as BIPOC (54% overall and 72% of the Fall 2024 class) and 45% as first-generation college students.
This free event is specifically designed for underrepresented, BIPOC, and first-generation prospective college students interested in pursuing higher education.
The S.P.A.C.E. event will provide juniors and seniors with:
- Valuable resources
- Insights into college life
- Opportunities to connect with current SPU students and faculty
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore the possibilities that lie ahead as they consider their college journey.

Attend the Black College Expo on January 18, and write an essay by January 6 for Scholarship money
The National College Resource Foundation is once again hosting the Seattle Black College Expo Saturday January 18, 2025 at Rainier Beach High School from 10am to 3pn. Juniors and Seniors planning to attend the Expo also have the opportunity to win scholarship money by writing and submitting an essay by January 6, 2025 at 11pm.
The Expo will feature over 50 colleges offering on-the-spot college admissions, so make sure you bring copies of your transcript. All application fees will be waived if you apply with them that day. The Expo will also feature surprise celebrity guests, prizes, and free food. Register for the Seattle Black College Expo to attend.
If you are interested in winning up to $2500 in scholarship money, write an essay of 500 words or less on the topic “Why is a college education important to me” and submit it through the online application by January 6 at 11pm.
WSU Sponsoring Paid Weekend Conference for BIPOC Students in February, register now while space available
Washington State University will present its Visionaries Inspiring Black Empowered Students (V.I.B.E.S) Conference February 7-9, 2025 at the Pullman campus.
VIBES aims to motivate and encourage high school students to seek higher education opportunities. Sponsored by the Black Student Union of Washington State University, the conference helps students see the value of ongoing learning and the need to always reach higher and dream bigger with the endless opportunities that await them with a solid educational foundation.
Students will get an opportunity to visit WSU Pullman and understand life as a WSU Coug firsthand through a series of workshops and activities on topics like financial aid, tackling student loans, applications, deciding the right major and more.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship Deadline Extended to January 9
The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship is now open until January 9! So much more than a scholarship, every year the Amazon Future Engineer program awards 400 students up to $40,000 each toward college expenses, paired with opportunities to intern at Amazon. This scholarship program is open to current high school seniors planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or other computer science related field of study and are planning to attend an accredited 4-year college or university in the United States (or an accredited 2-year college, with the intent to transfer to a 4-year institution).
Women’s University Club Offering $10,000 Scholarship, Deadline February 10
Each year, the Women’s University Club of Seattle Foundation awards $10,000 scholarships to young women of character, scholarship, and community service performed independent of their school requirements. The funds are distributed over four years and may be used for tuition, mandatory fees, books, and supplies. Successful applicants will reflect the Foundation’s values of innovative leadership, civic involvement and personal growth.
To qualify, students must submit a fillable pdf application along with their high school transcript and a recommendation letter. Learn more about their application requirements and then download an application.

HBCU-Bound Seniors Can Apply Now for a $40,000 STEM Scholarship
- Are you a high school senior looking to make the world or your community a better place?
- Do you plan to attend an HBCU next year?
- Do you have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math?
If you answered yes, FOSSI may be for you. FOSSI, Future of STEM Scholars Initiative, funds 4-year scholarships of $10,000 per year for students majoring in STEM related fields at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Additionally, FOSSI connects students to leadership development, mentoring and internship opportunities at participating companies.

$16,000 scholarship available just for South Seattle students, apply by January 31
Applications are open for a $16,000 local scholarship that is targeted specifically towards students at Franklin. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship (a sponsored activity of the Mount Baker Community Club) grants $4K per year and is renewable for 4 years of college ($16K total) – with options for 2-year programs (or 2-year to 4-year transfer pathways) as well.
The goal of this scholarship is to help deserving students achieve the dream of a higher education. The scholarship seeks out students who show financial need and academic promise, have overcome obstacles, and who contribute to their community. The scholarship is limited to students from ethnic or racial groups that are underrepresented in higher education. Make sure if you are eligible for South Seattle Students Scholarship before you apply.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is administered by College Success Foundation. More information can be found on College Success Foundation website. Application Deadline: January 31, 2025.
Seattle Promise (2 years Free Tuition) Application Now Open!
Seattle Promise is a college tuition and success program launched by Seattle Colleges, Seattle Public Schools, and the City of Seattle. It offers free tuition at any of the Seattle Colleges: North Seattle College, Seattle Central College or South Seattle College for up to two years, 90 college credits or a student’s first degree, whichever comes first.
All graduating seniors attending Seattle public high schools are eligible for the Seattle Promise program regardless of grade point average (GPA), income, ability, or country of birth. But you MUST APPLY to claim your free tuition. The application deadline is February 14.
Even if you are expecting to attend a 4-year university after high school, sometimes plans change, and you do not want to miss out on free tuition for 2 years. You cannot apply to Seattle Promise after February 16, so do it now even if it is a backup plan. Find out more information about the Seattle Promise and Apply for Seattle Promise NOW!

Training and Mentorship Programs
Seattle Theatre Group Recruiting for ELEVATE Black and Brown Voice Showcase
STG is now accepting applications for the 5th Annual ELEVATE: a showcase of black and brown youth voices uplifting one another through the art of spoken words. The program includes Weekly in person writing sessions starting in March, two rehearsals in June, followed by a Final Share performance on June 12, 2025

Register Now for STEP-UP Summer STEM Research Program
The National Institute of Health’s Short-Term Research Experience Program to Unlock Potential (STEP-UP) is a nationally recognized summer research program that connects students with local institutions and mentors to gain firsthand research experience.
STEP-UP supports high school Juniors and Seniors from groups historically excluded from
science to spend a summer in a paid, full-time, 8-week internship at research labs near their
home. During the program, students will create and conduct their own research project, garnering essential experience before they enter college. After the program, students will have the opportunity to present their work at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. All travel expenses will be covered by the program.

Service-Learning Opportunities
Applications Now Open for the UW Botanical Gardens Junior Naturalist Service Program
UW Botanic Gardens Junior Naturalist applications are now open for the summer program. Junior Naturalists are teens volunteering with the Arboretum Summer Camp for a two-week session. The program is looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about working with kids, playing outside, and gaining leadership skills. Students can earn up to 75 service hours, and will receive a letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the program.
Qualified Students are:
- Age 15-18
- Able to commit to a full, 2-week session
- Willing to be outside all day
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the application will close when space is filled (usually late Spring). Please contact us at uwbgeduc@uw.edu if you have any questions.
Dance Buddy Internship or Volunteer Opportunity with AIM initiative
Be a Dance Buddy to a neurodiverse or disabled student in an adaptive movement camp. Volunteers will dance, move, ad play with students facilitated by a teacher. They will provide unique support to students to make sure that everyone is safe and engaged
Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the week. Typical shifts are:
- Saturdays, 12:45-2:15PM and 2-3:30PM
- Sundays, 2:45-4:15PM / 3:45PM-5:15PM / 4-5:30PM
- Wednesdays, 4:15-5:45PM
