Seattle Housing Authority Hosting Youth Job Fair Feb 19
The Seattle Housing Authority will be hosting a free Job Fair for youth 13-24 at the New Holly Gathering Hall (7054 32nd Ave S) on February 19 from 1-4pm. You do not have to be an SHA New Holly resident to attend. The fair is open to all Seattle youth.
Companies/organizations in attendance include: Seattle Parks and Recreation (Rec in the Streets), Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP), Arena Sports, Boys and Girls Club, Team Read, McDonald’s, YMCA, US Army, UW Botanical Gardens, Teens in Public Service, and King County Natural Resources and Parks.

Rainier Beach Youth Stewards Now Hiring for Summer and Fall
The Rainier Beach Youth Stewards program is currently accepting applications for the 2025 summer and fall seasons! RBYS is a youth employment program of Tilth Alliance for youth, ages 14-18, to gain job experience through wetland restoration, farm education, and community engagement.
Participants will work at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands and support with field maintenance, food distribution, and wetland restoration. Youth will participate in workshops that explore food access, civic engagement, and responsible land stewardship while building relationships with peers, adult staff, and volunteers. See their seasonal schedule below.
Summer June 24 – August 29. 15 hrs/week for 10 weeks Every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10:00am – 3:00pm

Fall September 16 – November 22. 6 hrs/week for 10 weeks. Every Wednesday: 3:15pm – 5:15pm and Saturday: 10:00am – 3:00pm

Pedalheads Seeking Camp Counselors for Spring Break and Summer Programs
Pedalheads, a learn-to-ride bicycle day camp for ages 2-12, is currently hiring Camp Counselors to help run their 2025 spring break and summer programs. Their camp counselor positions are wonderful entry level jobs for youth to gain skills in relationship-building, teaching and leadership; and hours are also available as service-learning (you can do 40 hours of service-learning over Spring Break and then get paid throughout the Summer).

Boeing is now accepting applications for their 2025 High School Manufacturing Student Development Program! Applications will now be accepted through February 19, 2025.
The manufacturing Student Development Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive experience, including hands-on training, job site exposure, and career planning support.

Teens in Public Service Seeking Interns interested in Leadership and Service
The 2025 application for Teens in Public Service (TIPS) is now open! TIPS provides paid summer internships at nonprofit organizations for high school students passionate about leadership and service. Internship placements range from museums to nature preserves, food banks, summer camps, and more!
TIPS interns gain…
- A summer’s worth of impactful work experience
- Exposure to the “behind the scenes” of nonprofit orgs carrying out community-centered work
- Mentorship, networking opportunity, and support from TIPS and their nonprofit supervisors / coworkers

Seattle Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department maintains an Career Quest SPS Active directory of internships and other career-focused training programs that is updated throughout the year. The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.
This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.
Worksite Learning (HS credit for work)
Students who are currently employed can earn high school credit (CTE or other elective credit) for completed working hours! Every 180 hours worked is equivalent to .5 high school elective credits plus an A to boost your GPA for college admissions.

Eligibility for students seeking elective credit for their paid work experience:
- Student must be 16 years of age or older, be legally employed, and have taken a CTE course.

- Complete a final evaluation form detailing how their specific work experience aligns with their educational goals, imparts work and financial understanding, and the ways this work experience impacts future career and educational opportunities.

UW STEMsub now accepting applications for next cohort beginning this Summer
The mission of UW STEMsub (Math Science Upward Bound) is to help low income and potential first-generation college students succeed in high school, get accepted to college and STEM majors, and graduate with a STEM degree.
Summer Academy includes: six weeks of STEM classes at UW taught by professors (one semester of high school credit per class), research opportunities, field trips, and a lunch stipend.
Academic Year support includes: weekly academic advising and tutoring, Saturday college/career prep workshops, graduation assistance, SAT/ACT prep, help with college application essays, service learning hours, and a paid stipend for your full participation.
Eligibility:
- 10th or 11th grader
- Motivated to go to college and are interested in pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) or the Medical/Health Care field;
- Are the first generation in your family to earn a 4-year college degree and/or come from a low-income family. Most students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch are eligible
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident not already participating in another Upward Bound or TRIO Talent Search Program.

The BE Project Promotes Black Excellence through tours of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) and workshops to help students prepare.
Tours:
The BE Project provides professional, organized, and memorable trips at an affordable price. Tour chaperones are experienced and dedicated to providing students a college preparatory experience.
There are still spots available on the East Coast tour, which will visit the following institutions In Virginia: Hampton University, Virginia State University, Norfolk State University and Virginia Union University, and in Washington D.C,: Howard University, The University of District of Columbia and Bowie State University.
The Southeast tour is currently full, and the program is pushing interested students to the East Coast tour; however they are compiling a “wait list” for student interested in just the Southeast tour. Email info@thebeprojects.com to be put on the waitlist.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Apply today for WAVE scholarship: Top career and technical education students gain tuition, training dollars
Washington’s top career and technical education (CTE) students are encouraged to apply for the 2025 Washington Award for Vocational Excellence. This merit scholarship helps pay for college and training.
At a minimum, students will receive about $3,900 per year, for two years, or $7,800 total. Past awards have been as high as $11,700 per year, for two years. The scholarship helps students pay for tuition and other costs at Washington colleges, universities or private career schools.
These students are eligible to apply:
- Graduating high school seniors who have finished or are completing the equivalent of two high school credits in a single CTE pathway
- Community and technical college students who have completed the equivalent of one year of professional-technical or apprenticeship coursework
Up to 147 students will be awarded WAVE scholarships this year – two high school students, and one community or technical college student from each of Washington’s 49 legislative districts.

Rare College Scholarship for High School Juniors!
If you have plans to attend college in the U.S. in the fall of 2026, demonstrate financial need, are involved in school and community activities, and display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, The Horatio Alger Scholarship is for you! Award amounts range from $10,000 to $25,000 and there are more than 600 available. This is a great opportunity if you are eligible.

Seattle Promise (2 years Free Tuition) Application Deadline THIS FRIDAY!
Seattle Promise is a college tuition and success program launched by Seattle Colleges, Seattle Public Schools, and the City of Seattle. It offers free tuition at any of the Seattle Colleges: North Seattle College, Seattle Central College or South Seattle College for up to two years, 90 college credits or a student’s first degree, whichever comes first.
All graduating seniors attending Seattle public high schools are eligible for the Seattle Promise program regardless of grade point average (GPA), income, ability, or country of birth. But you MUST APPLY to claim your free tuition. The application deadline is February 14.
Even if you are expecting to attend a 4-year university after high school, sometimes plans change, and you do not want to miss out on free tuition for 2 years. The Seattle Skills Center team is happy to announce that the 2025-26 school year application is open! All SPS students are eligible to register for and earn credit from the half-day Skills Center courses while attending their current high school. Skills Center classes provide rigorous, hands-on learning opportunities for students interested in building skills in careers like healthcare, firefighting, education, maritime, and many more while students are still in high school.

Seattle Academy is hosting their annual business plan competition, The Elevator | Ready to Launch, on March 8th. The Elevator: Ready to Launch invites students to participate in designing, creating, and pitching a business plan to a panel of Seattle Entrepreneurs. No preparation or experience is required. Open to ALL 9th-12th grade students in the Seattle area, FREE (lunch included)!
Students will be placed on teams mixed with other schools. This is an excellent opportunity to network with peers and professionals and gain competition experience in a supportive environment.

Seattle Children’s Research Institute Now Accepting Applications for Summer (10th graders only)
Seattle Children’s Research Institute is committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists, physicians and healthcare workers. The Science Education Department offers high school students the opportunity to learn more about biology laboratory research. The Research Training Program (RTP) is an in-person program with a competitive application process.
There is no cost to participate. $2000-$2500 Summer stipends are available to offset costs for transportation and meals. This program is for students from backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in the biomedical and health sciences.
Starting this year, the Research Training Program (RTP) is expanding into a two-year, in-person program with scaffolded experiences to introduce high school students currently in grade 10 to laboratory research.
Learn more about the program, and submit your application by Sunday, March 9 to qualify. Students will need a Recommendation Letter from a teacher, advisor, or employer to complete their application.

The National Institute of Health’s Short-Term Research Experience Program to Unlock Potential (STEP-UP) is a nationally recognized summer research program that connects students with local institutions and mentors to gain firsthand research experience.
STEP-UP supports high school Juniors and Seniors from groups historically excluded from
science to spend a summer in a paid, full-time, 8-week internship at research labs near their
home. During the program, students will create and conduct their own research project, garnering essential experience before they enter college. After the program, students will have the opportunity to present their work at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. All travel expenses will be covered by the program.

The Girls Who Code 2025 Summer Programs Application is open!
GHC Summer Programs help high school girls and nonbinary students build coding skills, explore career pathways in tech, and connect with a supportive community–no program fees or prior coding experience required!
Students can choose their own adventure with two exciting program options:
Summer Immersion Program (SIP): Spend two weeks designing computer games in live virtual classrooms while making friends, getting practical college and career advice from industry leaders, and exploring a future career in tech. Eligible students can apply for a $300 SIP Student Grant plus laptop and hotspot access!
Pathways: This flexible, six-week program lets students learn at their own pace with step-by-step video tutorials. Participants explore hot topics in tech like artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and web development, with opportunities to apply new skills to real-world projects and get career insights from tech industry pros

STG is now accepting applications for the 5th Annual ELEVATE: a showcase of black and brown youth voices uplifting one another through the art of spoken words. The Seattle Police Law Enforcement Exploring program aims to bridge the gap between youth and police by educating and involving them in police operations and to interest them in Law Enforcement.
Besides gaining a working knowledge of police work, the participants have the opportunity to give of themselves to their community.
Who: Explorers is for young men and women 14 to 21 years of age with a grade point average of 2.5 or above
When: must attend 2 – 4 monthly meetings in succession.

Rainier Valley Food Bank Seeking Volunteers for Upcoming Book Fair
The Rainier Valley Food Bank is currently looking for volunteers for their third annual Book Fair (in coordination with Seattle Public Library) on Saturday, March 22 from 10am-1pm. If you are interested in volunteering to earn some service hours, please contact Hannah Wertzberger, Youth Community Coordinator, at hannah.wertzberger@rvfb.org to sign up for this opportunity.
Applications Now Open for the UW Botanical Gardens Junior Naturalist Service Program
UW Botanic Gardens Junior Naturalist applications are now open for the summer program. Junior Naturalists are teens volunteering with the Arboretum Summer Camp for a two-week session. The program is looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about working with kids, playing outside, and gaining leadership skills. Students can earn up to 75 service hours, and will receive a letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the program.
Qualified Students are:
- Age 15-18
- Able to commit to a full, 2-week session
- Willing to be outside all day

Washington Bus Education Fund – the largest youth-led organization dedicated to empowering BIPOC and working-class young Washingtonians – offers year-round internships and organizing opportunities to produce the next generation of civic and political leaders in our state.
Bus Underground marks the next evolution of their high school programming. It combines elements of their previous Vote Leads program and Political Education series into a dynamic, open organizing space for young people. This new initiative provides a collaborative environment where youth can explore their passions, build skills, and create change in their communities, all while earning service hours towards their high school graduation. Be a Dance Buddy to a neurodiverse or disabled student in an adaptive movement camp. Volunteers will dance, move, ad play with students facilitated by a teacher. They will provide unique support to students to make sure that everyone is safe and engaged

School Connect WA provides after school literacy and math tutoring/programming for BIPOC and McKinney Vento children in Seattle Public Schools. Locally, they partner with the Deaborn Park International School in Beacon Hill to provide reading and math tutoring to 1st-5th graders. This opportunity would be an easy commute for any Franklin students who are interested in volunteering.
