The Rainier Beach Youth Stewards program is currently accepting applications for the 2025 summer and fall seasons! RBYS is a youth employment program of Tilth Alliance for youth, ages 14-18, to gain job experience through wetland restoration, farm education, and community engagement. 

Participants will work at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands and support with field maintenance, food distribution, and wetland restoration. Youth will participate in workshops that explore food access, civic engagement, and responsible land stewardship while building relationships with peers, adult staff, and volunteers. See their seasonal schedule below.  

Summer June 24 – August 29.  15 hrs/week for 10 weeks  Every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10:00am – 3:00pm 

Applications due May 18

Fall September 16 – November 22.  6 hrs/week for 10 weeks.  Every Wednesday: 3:15pm – 5:15pm and Saturday: 10:00am – 3:00pm

Qualifications: To be considered, applicants must be 14-18 years old and must submit a complete application.  Applicants are encouraged to apply for multiple seasons 

Pay: Youth will be paid $20.76/hr and will receive checks bi-weekly.

Pedalheads, a learn-to-ride bicycle day camp for ages 2-12, is currently hiring Camp Counselors to help run their 2025 spring break and summer programs. Their camp counselor positions are wonderful entry level jobs for youth to gain skills in relationship-building, teaching and leadership; and hours are also available as service-learning (you can do 40 hours of service-learning over Spring Break and then get paid throughout the Summer).

One Week Left to Apply for the Bank of America Summer Internship Program

Each year Boys and Girls Club YouthForce partners with Bank of America to offer 15 students an opportunity to work at a BOA location near them. Students will learn customer service while developing their professional career within the financial sector. This is a 7-week internship that requires committed students as they can only have 2 excused absences throughout the internship.

Applications are open until March 17. Here is some more additional information:

  • Pay: $24/hour
  • Date: June 30th to August 15th
  • Time: Mon-Fri from 10am-4pm
  • Slots: 15

SYEP Deadline for Summer Internship Program approaching, apply by March 21

The Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP) supports young people (ages 16 to 24) from qualifying-income households and communities that experience racial, social, and economic disparities. The goal is to increase youth and young adults’ ability to pursue careers that pay well and are meaningful to them.

In the Summer Internship Program, running July 9-August 26 (150 hours), participants are placed in professional and/or structured paid work settings within City departments, local businesses and non-profit agencies to apply their knowledge, gain hands-on experience, develop professional connections, and build their resume.

Additional Benefits:

  • Receive pre-employment training and work experience to aid in your professional growth and career exploration
  • Get professional support from a trusted mentor throughout the program
  • Gain practical experience to build your resume and potential connections to advance your career or education

SPS Career Quest Summer Internship Program Now Accepting Applications until April 23 (or until all spots filled)

We are very excited to share that the following summer programs are open! These are programs where students can both earn CTE credit and earn either a stipend or an hourly wage. Description Details 
Career Quest Get matched with an intern host in business/media arts or building/construction trades! This is a wonderful way to try out a career and gain working experience along with credit.  July 8-August 1, 9:30am-3pm (Monday through Friday)  $20.76/hour (hiring documents required)  Location: Internship site (varies) and Franklin HS  
Finance Quest This program is for rising 11th graders interested in careers in finance, accounting, and management. During the 2 week program, students get guided mentorship from Amazon volunteers during their senior year. Snacks and swag provided by Amazon.  July 28- August 8, 9am-3pm (Monday through Friday)  $400 stipend (2 payments of $200)  Location: Amazon Campus (near Westlake Station) 
Science Quest – This is a biotech and biology deep dive at the Allen Institute’s cutting-edge lab. Students need to have completed a biology class in order to be considered for this program. Snacks provided by Allen Institute.   July 14-July 25, 9:30am-3:00pm (Monday through Friday)  $500 stipend paid upon completion of class  Location: Allen Quest (near Westlake light rail station) 
Tech Quest – Located on the Amazon campus, students explore computer science jobs, learn basic coding, etc. Snacks and swag provided by Amazon.This opportunity is primarily for current 9th and 10th grade students.  July 21-August 1, 10am-3pm (Monday through Friday)  $500 stipend paid upon completion of class  Location: Amazon Campus (near Westlake Station)

Seattle Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department maintains an Career Quest SPS Active directory of internships and other career-focused training programs that is updated throughout the year. The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.

This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.

Students who are currently employed can earn high school credit (CTE or other elective credit) for completed working hours! Every 180 hours worked is equivalent to .5 high school elective credits plus an A to boost your GPA for college admissions.

Eligibility for students seeking elective credit for their paid work experience:

  • Student must be 16 years of age or older, be legally employed, and have taken a CTE course.
  • Complete Bi-Weekly check-in forms documenting your hours.
  • Complete a final evaluation form detailing how their specific work experience aligns with their educational goals, imparts work and financial understanding, and the ways this work experience impacts future career and educational opportunities.

Register for the “What Should I Do After High School” Virtual Workshop March 15

The Filipino American Student Association at the University of Washington is hosting a “What Should I Do After High School?” workshop on March 15, with activities designed to help students select which university they want to attend/apply to, as well as information regarding some non-traditional post-secondary pathways. The workshop will feature a panel of students from these various post-high school paths, including: 

  • Enrolled in 4-year university 
  • 2-year community college transfer 
  • Trade/technical schools 
  • Gap year!

The purpose of this workshop is for high-school students of all grades – whether seniors, juniors, or sophomores to explore the diverse options available to them after graduation, by compiling critical things to consider when making decisions and by interacting with individuals who have firsthand experience in these various pathways.  Please note, while it is hosted by a Filipino organization, this workshop is available to ALL students, regardless of their racial/ethnic background.

UW STEMsub now accepting applications for next cohort beginning this Summer

The mission of UW STEMsub (Math Science Upward Bound) is to help low income and potential first-generation college students succeed in high school, get accepted to college and STEM majors, and graduate with a STEM degree.

Summer Academy includes: six weeks of STEM classes at UW taught by professors (one semester of high school credit per class), research opportunities, field trips, and a lunch stipend.

Academic Year support includes: weekly academic advising and tutoring, Saturday college/career prep workshops, graduation assistance, SAT/ACT prep, help with college application essays, service learning hours, and a paid stipend for your full participation.

Eligibility:

  • 10th or 11th grader
  • Motivated to go to college and are interested in pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) or the Medical/Health Care field;
  • Are the first generation in your family to earn a 4-year college degree and/or come from a low-income family. Most students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch are eligible
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident not already participating in another Upward Bound or TRIO Talent Search Program.

UW College of Engineering Hosting event for underrepresented students in STEM

UW College of Engineering and Office of Inclusive Excellence are organizing an event for Underrepresented High School Students to explore STEM opportunities and learn what it’s like to be a student at the UW. The event will take place on the UW campus on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 10AM to 4PM.

It’s a free event where breakfast and lunch will be served, and students participate in hands-on workshops, visit labs, get admissions advice, tour the campus, and hear from STEM professionals like themselves and much more.

Franklin Alumni Association Scholarships Now Open

Applications for scholarships ONLY available to graduating Franklin seniors are once again open for the 24-25 school year. Ranging between $2,000 and $5,000, these opportunities are your best chance to get extra money for your college or vocational training programs. Because they only go to Franklin students, your odds of getting this money is MUCH higher than most other scholarship opportunities listed in the Scholarship Bulletin.

Scholarships available for Professional/Technical (Trades) Programs

Students interested in pursuing professional/technical college or trade school programs not currently offered at one of the three Seattle Colleges (ex. pharmacy tech, phlebotomy, biotech, radiology/ultrasound tech, cosmetology, auto mechanic, machining, criminal justice/forensic science, hospitality management) often need to find alternative ways of paying for school besides Seattle Promise. Because these programs are not offered through Seattle Colleges, Seattle Promise cannot be used to pay for tuition.

However, there are four scholarships that students can apply for to fund their program at another college in the area. Check them out now and begin applying!

Rare College Scholarship for High School Juniors!

Award amounts range from $10,000 to $25,000 and there are more than 600 available. This is a great opportunity if you are eligible.

Training and Mentorship Programs

UW Allen School Offering Changemakers in Computing Summer Program

Mentee applications for UW Allen School Summer 2025 Changemakers in Computing are open! The deadline to apply is April 3rd, 11:59PM PT. Changemakers in Computing (CiC) is a free summer program hosted by the University of Washington’s Allen School. CiC aims to increase the participation of underrepresented, economically disadvantaged, and/or future first-generation college students in computer science and engineering.

The program is open to all rising juniors and seniors at Washington state high schools. Students will be organized into Mentee groups led by Mentors who are current UW undergraduate students. Mentees will develop coding skills through culturally relevant project-based learning, learning about different areas of computing, explore the changemaking impact one can have through technology, receive support in pursuing continued learning, and build community with other changemakers

Important details:

  • April 3rd, 11:59PM – Applications closes
  • May 1st – Decisions are sent
  • July 7th through August 1st – Program dates (Monday – Thursday, 9am-3pm)
  • Mentees will receive a $1200 stipend for participating in the program. Breakfast and lunch are provided on program days.

Applications now open for UW Young Executives of Color 2025-26

The Young Executives of Color (YEOC) program, hosted by the Michael G. Foster School of Business and Ernst & Young (EY) since 2006, is a FREE nine-month college pipeline program for rising junior and senior high school students. Students attend one Saturday session every month from September to May at Foster School of Business on the University of Washington’s Seattle campus. 

Students will have the opportunity and benefits of:

  • Learning about business functions (e.g. Information Systems, Marketing, Finance, etc.)
  • Get college prepared through workshops and connecting with UW and Foster admissions
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Networking with business leaders, faculty, and staff
  • Receive mentorship from undergraduate students affiliated with the Foster School

Sign up to attend King County Public Health Camp August 4-8

Students interests in careers in health and community development careers, are encouraged to participate in the King County Public Health Camp this summer. The camp features field trips, career path explorations, and hands-on learning opportunities from public health professionals, including nurses, research scientists, health educators and more.

  • Open to all young people age 16 and older
  • August 4-8, 2025. 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM (day camp, no overnights)
  • Lunch and snacks provided each day

Seattle Children’s Summer Nurse and Medical Provider Camps Now Accepting Applications

Seattle Children’s Hospital employs thousands of healthcare professionals who deliver hope, care and cures to help every child live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible. Each summer, they produce two camps to help prepare the next generation for Seattle Children’s important work.

Nurse Camp – During this free, five-day camp, students will gain insight into the world of pediatric nursing by participating in clinical observation sessions. In these sessions, students will shadow nurses in a clinical environment and observe as they provide patient care and interact with patients and families. July 14-18, 2025. The Girls Who Code  2025 Summer Programs Application is open!

GHC Summer Programs help high school girls and nonbinary students build coding skills, explore career pathways in tech, and connect with a supportive community–no program fees or prior coding experience required!

Students can choose their own adventure with two exciting program options:

Summer Immersion Program (SIP): Spend two weeks designing computer games in live virtual classrooms while making friends, getting practical college and career advice from industry leaders, and exploring a future career in tech. Eligible students can apply for a $300 SIP Student Grant plus laptop and hotspot access!

Participants explore hot topics in tech like artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and web development, with opportunities to apply new skills to real-world projects and get career insights from tech industry pros

STG Presents Elevate

STG is now accepting applications for the 5th Annual ELEVATE: a showcase of black and brown youth voices uplifting one another through the art of spoken words. The program includes Weekly in person writing sessions starting in March, two rehearsals in June, followed by a Final Share performance on June 12, 2025

The Seattle Police Law Enforcement Exploring program aims to bridge the gap between youth and police by educating and involving them in police operations and to interest them in Law Enforcement.

Besides gaining a working knowledge of police work, the participants have the opportunity to give of themselves to their community.

Who: Explorers is for young men and women 14 to 21 years of age with a grade point average of 2.5 or above

When: must attend 2 – 4 monthly meetings in succession.

Service-Learning Opportunities

Skate Like A Girl Summer Program Offering 50+ Volunteer Hours

Skate Like A Girl’s Y.E.S. Program gives teens the opportunity to gain professional skills through skateboarding and make a positive impact in their community, all while earning service hours throughout the summer.

Applications for the 2025 Youth Employment Skateboarding cohort are now open! Applications due March 30th, 2025.*

Students of all genders age 13-18 are invited to participate. Program commitment involves attending orientation, workshops, and trainings, as well as contributing at least 40 hours of volunteer service to support Skate Like a Girl activities during the Summer. Participants can expect to log a minimum of 50 hours total, including 40 hours in person at programs and events, along with about 10 hours dedicated to trainings, workshops, and other activities.

Uterish Summer Service Learning Program Applications Now Open

Uterish is a Seattle-based reproductive justice nonprofit offering a summer service learning program for self-directed rising juniors and seniors who are passionate about social justice and want to build their editorial and communications skills.

This program is a great opportunity for students to learn more about social justice, connect with like-minded peers, and develop their professional skills in a collaborative, feminist nonprofit environment.

In addition to service learning hours, the program has also coordinated school credit on behalf of participants who have needed it in the past. It is a low-commitment program (around 5 hours a week) coordinated around your summer schedule. Applications are due by March 24th.

UW Botanic Gardens Junior Naturalist applications are now open for the summer program. Junior Naturalists are teens volunteering with the Arboretum Summer Camp for a two-week session. The program is looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about working with kids, playing outside, and gaining leadership skills. Students can earn up to 75 service hours, and will receive a letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the program.

Qualified Students are:

  • Age 15-18
  • Able to commit to a full, 2-week session
  • Willing to be outside all day

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the application will close when space is filled (usually late Spring). Please contact us at uwbgeduc@uw.edu if you have any questions.

Washington Bus Education Fund – the largest youth-led organization dedicated to empowering BIPOC and working-class young Washingtonians – offers year-round internships and organizing opportunities to produce the next generation of civic and political leaders in our state.

Bus Underground marks the next evolution of their high school programming. It combines elements of their previous Vote Leads program and Political Education series into a dynamic, open organizing space for young people. This new initiative provides a collaborative environment where youth can explore their passions, build skills, and create change in their communities, all while earning service hours towards their high school graduation. Be a Dance Buddy to a neurodiverse or disabled student in an adaptive movement camp. Volunteers will dance, move, ad play with students facilitated by a teacher. They will provide unique support to students to make sure that everyone is safe and engaged

Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the week. Typical shifts are:

  • Saturdays, 12:45-2:15PM and 2-3:30PM
  • Sundays, 2:45-4:15PM / 3:45PM-5:15PM / 4-5:30PM
  • Wednesdays, 4:15-5:45PM

Pedalheads, a learn-to-ride bicycle day camp for ages 2-12, is currently seeking volunteer Camp Counselors to help run their 2025 spring break program. Their camp counselor volunteer positions are wonderful opportunities to gain skills in relationship-building, teaching and leadership while earning time toward your 60-hour graduation requirement.

School Connect WA provides after school literacy and math tutoring/programming for BIPOC and McKinney Vento children in Seattle Public Schools. Locally, they partner with the Deaborn Park International School in Beacon Hill to provide reading and math tutoring to 1st-5th graders. This opportunity would be an easy commute for any Franklin students who are interested in volunteering.
