Every other Tuesday, Franklin’s Career-Connected Learning Coordinator Mr. Ruiz will post upcoming college and career related events, important application deadlines, career training program opportunities, jobs, internships, service learning options, and other career-connected topics of interest to students and their families. Yuu Tea Cafe Now Hiring Bobaristas, Stop by to Apply
The Yuu Tea Cafe in front of the Walgreens on Rainier in Columbia City (4402 Rainier Ave S) is almost ready to open, and they are currently seeking Bobaristas. There is a sign out in front of the cafe with a QR code to fill out an application. Stop by to apply and to see if the owners are there for a quick introduction. They are currently decorating and setting everything up for customers. There are no links here to click. Just go down there and apply!
Collins Family Orchards Seeking Farmers Market Helper
The farmers market is a fun, fast-paced, community environment. The Farmers Market Helper position will put you in close contact with hundreds of local shoppers who love organic food and produce, as well as the opportunity to interact with other local farmers. This is a seasonal position starting in May and running until October.

Team Read now accepting Fall 2025 Applications
Are you are interested in earning some extra money during the school year taking a few hours out of your week to help elementary school students learn to read? Team Read is an afterschool program that offers families free 1:1 reading tutoring for their student 2 days a week from November to May. The teens hired are paired with these 2nd – 4th grade students, earn $20.76/hr for their time, and are supervised by an adult site coordinator – normally a staff member of the elementary school.

Sports Officials Northwest Seeking Umpires and Referees
Umpires Northwest LLC and Sports Officials Northwest LLC are looking for New and/or Experienced umpires and referees to become part of their continued success in Washington State

Having a hard time finding work or seeing your future? Attend Young Women Empowered’s Career Day to get some help
On Saturday, May 10th Young Women Empowered will be hosting their annual Career Day at Cleveland High School (511 15th Ave S) from 10am-4pm. Young people can attend multiple workshops, learn practical skills like perfecting their elevator pitch, and have opportunities to explore topics such as career trajectories, goal-setting, and creative ways to finance their dreams.
While this event is free for all 13-19 year old students, you must register in advance to attend. Email Alecz (she/her), Y-WE Events Coordinator, at alecz@y-we.org with any questions.

National Parks Service Offering a Summer Internship, Application Deadline May 9
Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Pioneer Square is recruiting for their 2025 In My Backyard Program summer cohort. This is a 5-week, paid experience co-hosted by the National Park Service and their non-profit partner, Discover Your Northwest. The program runs from July 8 to August 6, meeting twice a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11am to 4pm). Participants earn $20.76/hour and get the chance to build skills in storytelling, outdoor recreation, public speaking, and professional development.
It’s a great fit for teens who are curious about public lands and want to learn more. No prior experience is needed. The final project will be a short oral or visual presentation, developed with support throughout the program. They are searching for a total of 8 to 12 youths.
Applications are open now through May 9, and They’ll hold brief phone interviews the week of May 12.
Port of Seattle High School Internship Applications Opening Very Soon
Interested in public service? Are you currently a high school student looking for professional experience? The Port of Seattle offers a diverse field of opportunities for students to pursue career advancement. Applications open on May 5, so click the link below to learn more and check back on May 5 for live links to apply (you will need a resume and cover letter ready to go)

FEEST still seeking student leaders passionate about mental health and social justice, applications now rolling
Do you want to tap into the organizing work that FEEST youth are leading? Are you interested in showing up for actions and other strategic organizing methods to create change? In FEEST, you will receive leadership training, develop facilitation & public speaking skills, learn about social justice, and build youth power to create more equitable schools.
FEEST is hiring now for 2025-2026 student organizers for mental health and food justice initiatives, with an expected time commitment of 4-6 hours a week. Questions? Email ammara@feestseattle.org

Seattle Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department maintains an Career Quest SPS Active directory of internships and other career-focused training programs that is updated throughout the year. The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.
This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.
Worksite Learning (HS credit for work)

Students who are currently employed can earn high school credit (CTE or other elective credit) for completed working hours! Every 180 hours worked is equivalent to .5 high school elective credits plus an A to boost your GPA for college admissions.

Eligibility for students seeking elective credit for their paid work experience:
- Student must be 16 years of age or older, be legally employed, and have taken a CTE course.
- Complete Bi-Weekly check-in forms documenting your hours.
- Complete a final evaluation form detailing how their specific work experience aligns with their educational goals, imparts work and financial understanding, and the ways this work experience impacts future career and educational opportunities.

UW Hosting Aquatic Sciences Open House
On May 17th, the UW School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences will be hosting their annual Open House at the University of Washington. Open to the public, this program offers a free and family-friendly day of hands-on learning to celebrate science and research that relates to water. Visitors can tour a research vessel and experience real working science labs here at the university. There will be hands-on activities led by current UW students, staff, postdocs, and faculty across the College of the Environment and by organizations from the greater Seattle area.

FAFSA Deadline for Seattle Promise Extended to May 14, Attend a Workshop for help
Completing the FAFSA/WASFA is an important step for high school seniors to receive financial aid for college. Students eligible for the Seattle Promise scholarship must complete their FAFSA/WASFA by May 14, 2025 (deadline extended from April 30, 2025).

Training and Mentorship Programs
Applications still accepted for UW Young Executives of Color 2025-26
The Young Executives of Color (YEOC) program, hosted by the Michael G. Foster School of Business and Ernst & Young (EY) since 2006, is a Free nine-month college pipeline program for rising junior and senior high school students. Students attend one UW Young Executives of Color Saturday session every month from September to May at Foster School of Business on the University of Washington’s Seattle campus.
Students will have the opportunity and benefits of:
- Learning about business functions (e.g. Information Systems, Marketing, Finance, etc.)
- Get college prepared through workshops and connecting with UW and Foster admissions
- Professional development opportunities
- Networking with business leaders, faculty, and staff
- Receive mentorship from undergraduate students affiliated with the Foster School

Free Young Women Empowered Summer Camps Begin June 24
Young Women Empowered’s FREE Summer Camps begin on June 24th. Y-WE summer camps provide transformative experiences for young women and trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive youth ages 13-19.
This year’s Summer Camps include:
- BIPOC Horse Camp: an overnight camp June 24th – 25th in collaboration with the Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle at Red Barn Ranch in Auburn, Washington.
- Black Girls Bike: From June 29 – July 3rd program participants will get to learn the rules of the road, basic bike safety, how to fix a flat tire, how to safely ride around Seattle and more.
- Create Camp: a two-week day camp from July 14th – 25th designed for self-expression and artistic exploration!
- Black Mermaids: From July 28th – August 1st Chandrika Frances of the Oshun Swim School will curate this five-day exploration of Blackness and water.
- Grow Overnight Camp: August 13th – 15th at Ayeko Farm in Enumclaw, WA, where young people will explore a working farm and connect with nature firsthand.
- Grow Internship: Dig deep into farming, food justice, and community from July 9th – August 15th (Wed-Fri each week) at Marra Farm in South Park, Seattle! Young people will build leadership skills, confidence, and time management while working alongside peers and mentors.
- Write Camp: Write Camp is the perfect place to explore new genres, grow as a writer, and find your voice in a supportive, creative space. Held August 11th – 17th at the Seattle Public Library’s Downtown location, it’s the ultimate space to fuel creativity and connect with other young writers.

Service-Learning Opportunities
Local Congressman Seeking Students for Youth Advisory Council
The Office of Congressman Adam Smith is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 cohort of his Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council gives community-minded and civically engaged students an opportunity to discuss critical issues with Rep. Smith and staff. Participants will meet in-person once per month in their Kent office throughout the 2025-26 school year. This is not only a great opportunity for service-learning but also an excellent resume builder for students interested in law and public service careers.
All current high school and college students living in Washington’s Ninth Congressional District (this is all of South Seattle) are eligible to serve on the Youth Advisory Council. Applications will be accepted through June 16, 2025. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the weeks of July 14th and July 21st, 2025 via Zoom.

MoPOP’s Summer Service Program gets you connected to pop culture all summer
MoPOP’s Youth Volunteer Program (Summer Session) was designed as an opportunity for high schoolers to complete 40-60 service learning hours, while learning about museum and nonprofit career options from MoPOP professionals.
Youth Volunteers will perform various volunteer roles, interact with the diverse visiting population of the museum visitors and staff, and get to know other youth interested in the museum field. They are seeking applicants who are excited about pop culture and who are interested in building their customer service and public speaking skills.
