Team Read now accepting Fall 2025 Applications
Are you are interested in earning some extra money during the school year taking a few hours out of your week to help elementary school students learn to read? Team Read is an afterschool program that offers families free 1:1 reading tutoring for their student 2 days a week from November to May. The teens hired are paired with these 2nd – 4th grade students, earn $20.76/hr for their time, and are supervised by an adult site coordinator – normally a staff member of the elementary school.

UW Botanical Gardens Offering Summer Internship
University of Washington Botanic Gardens is offering a summer internship to help you prepare for careers as environmental professionals in science and education fields, develop leadership skills, work with children in an outdoor education setting, and lead a horticulture project in the Washington Park Arboretum, among other exciting opportunities.
This internship is ideal for high school students 16 or older, and no previous experience in environmental issues is required. UW Botanical Gardens expects to create a cohort of interns with a wide range of interests, experiences, and perspectives, and only ask that they demonstrate a commitment to community and equity, and are curious, creative, and enthusiastic!
As compensation, interns will receive:
- $1,750 stipend paid upon successful completion of the internship
- Fulfillment of volunteer or service-learning requirements
- References available upon request after successful completion of the internship

The application deadline is May 23rd, though applicants will be considered on a rolling basis. Final offers to interview will be sent no later than May 30th. Interested students are invited to complete the application which includes several short answer questions about their interests and goals.
Port of Seattle High School Internship Application Deadline May 18
Interested in public service? Are you currently a high school student looking for professional experience? The Port of Seattle offers a diverse field of opportunities for students to pursue career advancement.
Find more information on the high school internship program. Qualified candidates are:
- 16 years old by July 1st
- Currently enrolled in high school or a GED completion program or recently graduated from high school (within 12 months)
- Authorized to work in the US

FEEST still seeking student leaders passionate about mental health and social justice, applications now rolling
Do you want to tap into the organizing work that FEEST youth are leading? Are you interested in showing up for actions and other strategic organizing methods to create change? In FEEST, you will receive leadership training, develop facilitation & public speaking skills, learn about social justice, and build youth power to create more equitable schools.

Seattle Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department maintains an Career Quest SPS Active directory of internships and other career-focused training programs that is updated throughout the year. The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.
This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.
Worksite Learning (HS credit for work)

Students who are currently employed can earn high school credit (CTE or other elective credit) for completed working hours! Every 180 hours worked is equivalent to .5 high school elective credits plus an A to boost your GPA for college admissions.

Eligibility for students seeking elective credit for their paid work experience:
- Student must be 16 years of age or older, be legally employed, and have taken a CTE course.
- Complete Bi-Weekly check-in forms documenting your hours.
- Complete a final evaluation form detailing how their specific work experience aligns with their educational goals, imparts work and financial understanding, and the ways this work experience impacts future career and educational opportunities.
College Prep, Fairs, and Info Sessions
UW Hosting Aquatic Sciences Open House
On May 17th, the UW School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences will be hosting their annual Open House at the University of Washington. Open to the public, this program offers a free and family-friendly day of hands-on learning to celebrate science and research that relates to water. Visitors can tour a research vessel and experience real working science labs here at the university. There will be hands-on activities led by current UW students, staff, postdocs, and faculty across the College of the Environment and by organizations from the greater Seattle area.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
CSF Paying for College Workshop
If you need support with the Financial Aid process, El Centro de la Raza and College Success Foundation will be presenting Paying for College/Financial Aid workshops at the Columbia and Rainier Beach branch libraries on two days in June. At these sessions, CSF staff will answer questions about financial aid as well as help people with the FAFSA or WASFA forms. Spanish and Somali interpreters will be at both sessions.
- Columbia Branch: Wednesday, June 4, 5:30-7:30pm
- Rainier Beach Branch: Thursday, June 5, 5:30-7:30pm
These are informal, drop-in sessions so participants can join late or leave early. Registration is not required. Pizza will be served!
Still Seeking College Money? Apply for the Blacks in Government Scholarship
The Port of Seattle Chapter of Blacks In Government is now accepting 2025 Scholarship Applications. All applications must be received by 11:59 pm on June 1, 2025 .
Two scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded during a scholarship celebration ceremony on June 18, 2025.
- Academic Achievements (Evelyn Findley Outstanding Academic Achievement Award)
- Community Service (Lilyian Casswell-Isley Outstanding Community Service Award)
Applicants for the Scholarship must:
- Have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and superb academic achievement
- Reside in one of the following counties: King, Snohomish, Kitsap, Pierce, Whatcom, or Skagit
- Be a graduating high school student in 2025
- Have demonstrated involvement in community service
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Application Deadline UW Young Executives of Color 2025-26 approaching
The Young Executives of Color (YEOC) program, hosted by the Michael G. Foster School of Business and Ernst & Young (EY) since 2006, is a Free nine-month college pipeline program for rising junior and senior high school students. Students attend one UW Young Executives of Color Saturday session every month from September to May at Foster School of Business on the University of Washington’s Seattle campus.
Students will have the opportunity and benefits of:
- Learning about business functions (e.g. Information Systems, Marketing, Finance, etc.)
- Get college prepared through workshops and connecting with UW and Foster admissions
- Professional development opportunities
- Networking with business leaders, faculty, and staff
- Receive mentorship from undergraduate students affiliated with the Foster School

Service-Learning Opportunities
Seattle Universal Math Museum Seeking Volunteers to Promote Museum at Markets
Do you have a passion for math or education? Spend your Summer talking to kids and playing math games for service learning hours! Seattle Universal Math Museum (SUMM), a non-profit dedicated to providing informal math education to communities of opportunity around the Greater Seattle Area, is currently looking for high school-age volunteers to join them at farmers’ markets, museums and community centers this summer to help them promote their programs in really fun ways. Local Congressman Seeking Students for Youth Advisory Council
The Office of Congressman Adam Smith is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 cohort of his Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council gives community-minded and civically engaged students an opportunity to discuss critical issues with Rep. Smith and staff. Participants will meet in-person once per month in their Kent office throughout the 2025-26 school year. This is not only a great opportunity for service-learning but also an excellent resume builder for students interested in law and public service careers.
All current high school and college students living in Washington’s Ninth Congressional District (this is all of South Seattle) are eligible to serve on the Youth Advisory Council. Applications will be accepted through June 16, 2025. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the weeks of July 14th and July 21st, 2025 via Zoom.

MoPOP’s Summer Service Program gets you connected to pop culture all summer
MoPOP’s Youth Volunteer Program (Summer Session) was designed as an opportunity for high schoolers to complete 40-60 service learning hours, while learning about museum and nonprofit career options from MoPOP professionals.
Youth Volunteers will perform various volunteer roles, interact with the diverse visiting population of the museum visitors and staff, and get to know other youth interested in the museum field. They are seeking applicants who are excited about pop culture and who are interested in building their customer service and public speaking skills.
