Field Trip Opportunity
Port Jobs/Maritime Careers May 28 Tour of the Fisherman’s Terminal
Are you curious about career opportunities working on or near the water? Have you heard about the Maritime industry but want to know more? The upcoming field trip to Fishermen’s Terminal on May 28 includes a tour of the operations there, conversations about different career paths available at the Port, hands-on activities, and Free lunch served.
Students will get the chance to talk with staff about how they got to where they are today and hear what’s it like to work with the Port of Seattle! We will leave Franklin at 9:15 a.m. and return by 2 p.m.
For students interested in applying for the Port of Seattle High School Internship, this is a great place to start and learn about the Port before you prepare your application.

Art of Resistance and Resilience Seeking Muralists for Paid Work
The Art of Resistance and Resilience student organization is seeking to hire Franklin students to design and spray paint a big new mural on the cement wall that wraps around Franklin athletic field, with instructional support from local graffiti mural master Sire One. They are also looking to hire students with strong skills in portrait painting to repaint seven of the portraits of the Seattle Black Panther Party mural that were vandalized.

YMCA Summer Camps Seeking Day Camp Counselors
Every day campers participate in fun and engaging YMCA summer day camp programs. Counselors will lead a group of 10-15 youth in various activities throughout the camp, including group games, crafts, STEM projects, cooking projects and more. When you join their team of summer staff, you’re signing on for a summer of adventure with energetic coworkers, and plenty of perks like a free Y membership and paid training for certifications like First Aid and CPR.

If you need help applying and preparing for college, looking for a job, making a resume, or practicing for an interview, the College and Career Center is now open after school for drop-in help with Emily, our UW Dream Project intern. This is a great option for students who do not have time to schedule an appointment during the school day. As a working UW student, Emily has a lot of great insight and valuable tips to share with you! Drop-in help is available from 3:45 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

SafeFutures offering $1200 stipend “internship” to prepare for your future career
Are you looking for an exciting and competitive summer program? SafeFutures has got you covered! Every year, they offer a six-week summer program that accepts 20 applicants, making it a highly sought-after opportunity.
During the program, you’ll become an “intern” and explore exciting new career pathways and skill sets that will give you an edge in your future career. You’ll get to learn through various exciting field trip options, guest speakers, and personal development opportunities, making it a truly immersive experience.
And the best part? Upon completion of the summer program, you’ll receive a stipend of $1,200 as a reward for your hard work!

Foundry10 Youth Leadership Cohort Offers 4-week Paid Leadership Training
Are you interested in getting paid to grow your leadership skills? Are you curious how local education organizations receive financial gifts? Join the inaugural foundry10 Youth Leadership Cohort!
As a participant, you will:
- Design a proposal for a youth serving education organization to receive a philanthropic donation.
- Provide a youth perspective for current education research and programs at foundry10.
- Develop leadership and professional skills through hands-on learning and group workshops.
- Gain meaningful workplace experience to strengthen college, scholarship, and job applications.
- Build your network with peers and professionals across foundry10.
- Receive $25 per hour for your time (up to $2,200 total).

Arts Corps Offering Art 4 Life @ CAM Paid Art Internship
This summer, Arts Corps is pleased to offer youth 15-19 a paid arts internship opportunity in collaboration with Common Area Maintenance, July 6 – July 18. It is beginner level and no experience is required. Get $300 for the engaging work of expressing your passion through art. Explore photography, bookbinding, riso printing, and more. Got something to say? Shout those thoughts to the world through multiple art mediums.
The Art 4 life @ CAM internship offers skill building in a variety of traditional mediums, including drawing, printing, collaging, and more.

Arts Corps is committed to creating an intersectional learning environment to ensure that all students are supported and able to be brave in the Art 4 Life community space. Seattle Art Museum Offering a paid learning opportunity this summer!
Design Your Neighborhood (DYN) – Design is everywhere. It shapes how we live, move, and connect. From bus stops to parks to entire neighborhoods, every space around you exists because someone decided how it should work. Over three weeks, you’ll work with artists and designers to reimagine a real site in Seattle—developing ideas, testing them, and bringing them to life.
Past projects have included murals, redesigned park spaces, and public art installations. This year, they are starting with a site near the museum—and handing it over to you
Runs August 4-August 21, 2026
- For students in grades 10–12
- Paid opportunity
- 3-week program working with local artists/designers
- Students create a real project for a Seattle site

Seattle Art Museum offering a year-round internship program! Applications also due May 31
Make Your Mark on Art! TAG (Teen Arts Group) is a paid, yearlong teen internship and leadership cohort for high school–aged youth who are curious about art, community, and how museums work behind the scenes.
In TAG, you will:
- Learn about the many unseen sides of museum work and careers in the arts
- Lead by engaging with visitors, supporting programs, and helping create welcoming, teen-centered experiences
- Collaborate with other teens and SAM staff to contribute ideas, projects, and events
- Create your own artwork in new and familiar mediums
- Plan Teen Night Out,SAM’s annual free teen event
TAG Schedule & Commitment
- Thursdays, October 1, 2026 through May 27, 2027, 4:30–6:30 p.m. (weekly cohort meetings)
- Select Saturdays for Community Celebrations and Family Fun Workshops, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. (supporting family and public programs)
- Saturday, May 29, 2027, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for a culminating celebration
TAG is a paid internship. Participants may elect to receive either community service credit or monetary compensation commensurate with Seattle’s minimum wage.

Seattle Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department maintains an Career Quest SPS Active directory of internships and other career-focused training programs that is updated throughout the year. The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.
This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.
Worksite Learning (HS credit for work)

Students who are currently employed can earn high school credit (CTE or other elective credit) for completed working hours! Every 180 hours worked is equivalent to .5 high school elective credits plus an A to boost your GPA for college admissions.

Eligibility for students seeking elective credit for their paid work experience:
- Student must be 16 years of age or older, be legally employed, and have taken a CTE course.
- Complete Bi-Weekly check-in forms documenting your hours.
- Complete a final evaluation form detailing how their specific work experience aligns with their educational goals, imparts work and financial understanding, and the ways this work experience impacts future career and educational opportunities.
College Prep, Fairs, and Info Sessions

Become a High School Fellow with Matriculate, free college advising for low income, high potential students. Franklin students are encouraged to apply!
The college and financial aid process can be complicated! As a High School Fellow, you’ll have an Advising Fellow, someone from a similar background as you, walk you through every step of the process, 1:1, virtually, and for free. This includes creating a balanced college list, filling out applications, applying to financial aid and scholarships, preparing for college life, and more. All while cheering you on!
Matriculate also sends you “cheat sheet” guides, text reminders, a questions hotline, monthly newsletters, and you can access a Discord community.
The Matriculate Class of 2027 Application is now open! Apply today to get free 1:1 advising support. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until May 31, 2026, or until the class is filled. Spots can fill up fast, so apply now!

Interested in IT careers? Attend the UW Allen School Junior Exploration Day
Junior Exploration is a one-day conference for high school juniors who are curious about studying Computer Science or Computer Engineering at the University of Washington’s Seattle campus. Hosted by the Allen School Student Engagement & Access team, Junior Exploration is open to all students and may be especially supportive first-generation college students, low-income students, and others who may have limited access to computing education or college preparatory resources. No computing experience needed!

Scholarships and Financial Aid
It’s not too late to apply for as many scholarships as you can!

If you are looking for scholarship opportunities to help you pay for tuition or other living expenses for college, check out the Franklin Scholarship Bulletin for access to national scholarship search engines. Do a search of your own to see what’s still available.
Seattle Rainier Lions Club offering 2 university and 1 technical school scholarship
Each year the Seattle Rainier Lions Club awards scholarships to graduating seniors from Cleveland, Franklin, Beach, and Sugiyama High Schools. Two (2) scholarships of $2000 to students entering an accredited college or university and one (1) $1000 to a student entering an accredited technical or vocational school, will be awarded to students from EACH high school.
Applications must also include the following to be considered for the awards:
- A personal statement addressing your financial need, academic achievement, and participation in service projects
- One (1) Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or school administrator
- One (1) Letter of Recommendation from any person not related to the applicant – like a work colleague or supervisor, a community organization staff member, or a service learning supervisor.
Paper applications can be picked up in the Counseling Office or the College and Career Center (205a). Completed applications with all required documents are due on or before May 31.
The Port of Seattle Blacks In Government Scholarship applications now open until June 6.
The Port of Seattle Chapter of Blacks In Government is now accepting 2026 Scholarship Applications.
To Apply: Complete the Scholarship Application and include all the information outlined in the application. All applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on June 08, 2026 .
Four scholarships (two high school & two college students) of $1,000 each will be awarded during a scholarship celebration ceremony which is TBD on the week of June 15–19.
- Academic Achievements (Evelyn Findley Outstanding Academic Achievement Award)
- Community Service (Lilyian Casswell-Isley Outstanding Community Service Award)
Applicants for the Scholarship must:
- Have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and superb academic achievement
- Reside in one of the following counties: King, Snohomish, Kitsap, Pierce, Whatcom, or Skagit
- Be a graduating high school student in 2026 or an enrolled college student in 2026
- Have demonstrated involvement in community service
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Are you a young person (age 16+) interested in learning more about rewarding careers in Public Health? Join the King County Public Health Camp! Explore STEAM career paths in health care

Learn Arabic or Korean with OneWorld Now this summer
OneWorld Now is currently accepting applications for the Global Citizen Summer Language Program! In 4 weeks, students can earn a year’s worth of credit while learning Arabic or Korean.
This program runs from July 6-31 and will be held in Seattle’s Chinatown International District. The cost is $25, which includes field trips, cultural activities, leadership workshops, and daily lunches.
Spaces are limited to ~15 students per class, and classes are filling up. Current 8-12th graders can learn more about OneWorld Now, Global Citizen Summer Language Program and apply.

Urban League Presents 2026 Summer University
Don’t miss this exciting, free summer opportunity for Seattle Public Schools! Summer University 2026, is a paid, in-person summer program running July 6–August 14, 2026, hosted daily from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at Garfield High School. Students who successfully complete the program will earn a $600 stipend.
Summer University is designed to support high school students—particularly those exploring career pathways, leadership development, and postsecondary readiness—through the following learning tracks:
- Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy – Students develop business ideas, learn money management, saving, investing, and gain foundational knowledge of the stock market.
- Branding & App Design – Participants build a real brand, design a logo, and prototype a mobile app using Figma, culminating in a pitch competition.
- Peer Mentor & Mental Health Leadership – Students earn a certification while developing leadership skills and promoting positive mental health awareness in their schools and communities.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning, collaboration, leadership, and real-world skills, and is well suited for students who may benefit from structured summer engagement, career exposure, or leadership development.

Service-Learning Opportunities
Outdoors for All seeking summer volunteers
Outdoors for All provides outdoor recreation experiences for youth and adults with disabilities, and their Summer Youth Camps (June–August) are a particularly great opportunity for high school students seeking meaningful service hours, leadership experience, and hands‑on community involvement.
Youth Camp Volunteer Highlights:
- Support campers ages 7–17 with disabilities
- Assist with outdoor activities such as community outings, cycling, kayaking, hiking, swimming, rock climbing
- Camps run Monday–Friday, June 22–August 28
- Locations include Magnuson Park (Seattle), Lake Sammamish State Park (Issaquah), and PenMet Park (Gig Harbor)
Students age 16–17 are encouraged to apply and may volunteer once approved through the online application and required phone screening.

Teen Tix Offers Create Service Learning Opportunity
Looking for a fun and creative way to earn volunteer service hours? High school students can attend arts events and help create engaging content that connects more teens to the arts. Volunteers must have a TeenTix Pass and complete the TeenTix Volunteer Form below to get started.
There are four different programs available, depending on your interest:
- Mentorship for Teen Artists of Color (M-TAC): allows teen artists of color to hone their artwork under the guidance of professional mentors in small groups.
- The New Guard: trains young people to become the next generation of arts leaders. A cohort of youth ages 13-19 works deeply with TeenTix and Arts Partners to give meaningful feedback from the teen perspective.
- The TeenTix Newsroom: a group of writers, led by the Teen Editorial Staff, who write arts and culture reviews for the TeenTix blog.
- Teen Connectors: empowers teens to build arts-centered community in Seattle Center. Connectors will expand awareness of the TeenTix Pass, organize monthly gatherings, and develop a calendar of arts events with arts partners.
