Team Read now accepting Fall 2025 Applications
Are you are interested in earning some extra money during the school year taking a few hours out of your week to help elementary school students learn to read? Team Read is an afterschool program that offers families free 1:1 reading tutoring for their student 2 days a week from November to May. The teens hired are paired with these 2nd – 4th grade students, earn $20.76/hr for their time, and are supervised by an adult site coordinator – normally a staff member of the elementary school.

LAST MINUTE Paid Internships
The following internship opportunities have deadlines within the next 7 days. Don’t miss them if you are still looking. These are the last of them.
A Rare Paid Art Internship Opportunity with a VERY QUICK Deadline of May 30
Fresh Perspectives is a paid ($35/hour) summer residency program for youth ages 15-18. To participate, you must love art & be entering grades 10, 11, or 12 in high school. High school graduates are not eligible. The program runs from June-September 2025, with 3 full-time intensive weeks and other full and half days interspersed throughout the summer. Specific dates are listed within the application below.
Most sessions start and end at King Street Station, near the International District Light Rail Station. Participants will learn about art curation, visit galleries and museums, participate in workshops with teaching artists, tour public art collections, make art, and more! The goal is to de-mystify the art world, build community, and create a sense of belonging in the vast world of art and curation. All of this will culminate in a gallery exhibit and community opening event on September 4, 2025. This program is a big time commitment! If you love art so much that you are willing to devote 160 hours of your summer to learning, building community, and curating an exhibit with a cohort of 8-10 art-loving peers, please apply!
Seattle Public Library and UW Offering Brief Media/Info Science Internship, Apply by May 31
Seattle Public Library and University of Washington Libraries are accepting applications for a 2-week internship this summer. All work will be onsite at UW and lunch will be provided alongside a $700 stipend at completion of the program. Program dates are Monday through Thursday, from August 18 to August 28. Working hours will be 10 AM to 3PM, with a 1-hour lunch break.
Accepted students will make videos, podcasts, and GIS maps and will learn about college admissions and college life on the UW Seattle campus (including touring dorms, lunch in dining halls, meeting researchers and learning about librarianship). Teens will need to be able attend every weekday the last 2 weeks of August only (and will need to be able to travel to UW and on time each day by 10am) and will receive a $700 stipend on completion.

Seattle Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department maintains an Career Quest SPS Active directory of internships and other career-focused training programs that is updated throughout the year. The programs currently seeking students – and have open applications – are listed at the top. Programs that may not be accepting students now – but will in the future – are listed by CTE pathway below.
This is always the best place to start when looking for opportunities, but if you do not find something you like there, make an appointment with Mr. Ruiz to explore additional opportunities.
Worksite Learning (HS credit for work)

Students who are currently employed can earn high school credit (CTE or other elective credit) for completed working hours! Every 180 hours worked is equivalent to .5 high school elective credits plus an A to boost your GPA for college admissions.

Eligibility for students seeking elective credit for their paid work experience:
- Student must be 16 years of age or older, be legally employed, and have taken a CTE course.
- Complete Bi-Weekly check-in forms documenting your hours.
- Complete a final evaluation form detailing how their specific work experience aligns with their educational goals, imparts work and financial understanding, and the ways this work experience impacts future career and educational opportunities.

Seattle Promise Students: Don’t forget about Readiness Academy
Seattle Promise kicked off Readiness Academy on Tuesday, May 20, with 27 sessions hosted across all three Seattle Colleges campuses through June 11th.
Sign-ups are currently open on the Readiness Academy Webpage. Continue to check the website for updates as they plan to offer make-up and virtual sessions.
Readiness Academy is a required step for all Seattle Promise scholars and includes:
- Connection with Seattle Promise Retention Specialists and peers
- Fall Quarter course registration
- Scholarship and financial aid overview
- Enrollment Navigation & Support

Calling all Juniors interested in Computer Science and Engineering
If you are about to finish your 11th grade year and are interested in Computer Science or Engineering, UW has a program you might be interested in exploring. Allen School Junior Exploration is a virtual event for high school juniors who are curious about Computer Science or Computer Engineering as potential majors.
Held on May 31, 2025 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm, this event will give students an opportunity to learn more about the field of computing, the UW student experience, and the application process to be considered for Direct to Major admissions into the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington’s Seattle campus. This event is broken into four sessions:
- Computing Major Exploration
- Admissions Overview
- Computing Workshop
- Student Experience Panel

Scholarships and Financial Aid
CSF Paying for College Workshop

If you need support with the Financial Aid process, El Centro de la Raza and College Success Foundation will be presenting Paying for College/Financial Aid workshops at the Columbia and Rainier Beach branch libraries on two days in June. At these sessions, CSF staff will answer questions about financial aid as well as help people with the FAFSA or WASFA forms. Spanish and Somali interpreters will be at both sessions.
- Columbia Branch: Wednesday, June 4, 5:30-7:30pm
- Rainier Beach Branch: Thursday, June 5, 5:30-7:30pm
These are informal, drop-in sessions so participants can join late or leave early. Registration is not required. Pizza will be served!
Still Seeking College Money? Apply for the Blacks in Government Scholarship, Applications Due June 1
The Port of Seattle Chapter of Blacks In Government is now accepting 2025 Port of Seattle Chapter of Blacks in Government Scholarship Applications. All applications must be received by 11:59 pm on June 1, 2025 .
Two scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded during a scholarship celebration ceremony on June 18, 2025.
- Academic Achievements (Evelyn Findley Outstanding Academic Achievement Award)
- Community Service (Lilyian Casswell-Isley Outstanding Community Service Award)
Applicants for the Scholarship must:
- Have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and superb academic achievement
- Reside in one of the following counties: King, Snohomish, Kitsap, Pierce, Whatcom, or Skagit
- Be a graduating high school student in 2025
- Have demonstrated involvement in community service
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Training and Mentorship Programs
Urban League Summer University @ Garfield High Now Accepting Applications, $600 award for completing program
Looking for something to get you out of the house this summer while also collecting $600? Would you like to study career preparation courses like software coding, entrepreneurship, cosmetology, culinary arts, business competition, and community leadership? Join the Urban League at Garfield High School for their Summer University. Summer U is a free six-week program from July through August for rising 9th – 12th graders in the Metropolitan Seattle area. The program is designed to keep high school students engaged and learning during the summer months to prevent summer learning loss. Programming is led by the Urban League’s Education Department staff and certificated teachers.

Application Deadline UW Young Executives of Color 2025-26 approaching, Apply by May 31
The Young Executives of Color (YEOC) program, hosted by the Michael G. Foster School of Business and Ernst & Young (EY) since 2006, is a Free nine-month college pipeline program for rising junior and senior high school students. Students attend one UW Young Executives of Color Saturday session every month from September to May at Foster School of Business on the University of Washington’s Seattle campus.
Students will have the opportunity and benefits of:
- Learning about business functions (e.g. Information Systems, Marketing, Finance, etc.)
- Get college prepared through workshops and connecting with UW and Foster admissions
- Professional development opportunities
- Networking with business leaders, faculty, and staff
- Receive mentorship from undergraduate students affiliated with the Foster School

Service-Learning Opportunities
MoPOP’s Summer Service Program gets you connected to pop culture all summer, Applications close June 1
MoPOP’s Youth Volunteer Program (Summer Session) was designed as an opportunity for high schoolers to complete 40-60 service learning hours, while learning about museum and nonprofit career options from MoPOP professionals.
Youth Volunteers will perform various volunteer roles, interact with the diverse visiting population of the museum visitors and staff, and get to know other youth interested in the museum field. They are seeking applicants who are excited about pop culture and who are interested in building their customer service and public speaking skills.

Jefferson Community Center Actively Seeks Volunteers Year- Round
The Jefferson Community Center at Jefferson Park in Beacon Hill is a great nearby location to pick up service-learning hours throughout the year by becoming one of their regular volunteers.
This community center offers volunteer opportunities to: help the environment by picking up trash and maintaining the park space; helping out at events like Jefferson Jumpstart and Beacon Arts Street Fair and making posters for their events; and assisting with their education and recreation programming like cooking classes, kayaking, golfing, sewing club, and STEM workshops. Students can earn up to 100 hours over a single summer because of the amount of programming they have happening each week. Volunteers are also able to participate in the center’s many activities for free.

Seattle Universal Math Museum Seeking Volunteers to Promote Museum at Markets
Do you have a passion for math or education? Spend your Summer talking to kids and playing math games for service learning hours! Seattle Universal Math Museum (SUMM), a non-profit dedicated to providing informal math education to communities of opportunity around the Greater Seattle Area, is currently looking for high school-age volunteers to join them at farmers’ markets, museums and community centers this summer to help them promote their programs in really fun ways.
